Ship cabins!

I can't believe there hasn't been more celebration and general discussion about this. I mean, its buildings, in ships! This is a huge change, you can practically live in your boat now, plus pirates should be happy and coastal towns should be very, very afraid.

So come on, discuss!

Oh, I'm glad to know that's been implemented. What kind of buildings can you erect on your boats? The same as land ones? There must be some change between the land buildings and the sea/boat ones; I just can't bear the thought of building a lighthouse on my longboat. Can someone enlighten me, with regards to this query?

Thankyou kindly
~ Duckers.

There's more details in Implemented suggestions.

Look around the construction menu... and bear in mind that a cabin isn't technically a building ;)

Woulden't that be nice? A floating city with it's own lighthouse?
Gather resources on a island and find your way back to the floating city...

Well... yes, Liljum, it would be nice. I'm just thinking... in terms of realism. Anyway, from what I have read on 'Implemented Suggestions', it doesn't look like you'll be able to build much, if anything, on a longboat.

Maybe a galleon... but I haven't got a character who owns a galleon, yet. I haven't even got one who owns a longboat, but I like pretending. :)

I heard about it yesterday already but none of my characters are on a ship... one is on a crappy longboat and one has a raker but is currently on land. Yeah and a couple more have longboats too.

My pirate is ecstatic, this'll make pirating so much better for him.

Yes, it will make boating so much more exciting- I can't wait for my character to get out of prison... I really hope he doesn't die- the stupid lady dragged him into a Cell so he can't knock or drop notes outside pointing out he did nothing wrong... I hate bad RPers who take things personally ... not pointing out anyone in particular in this certain event, but... SENTINEL ISABELLAH! lol... Not very happy at all...

Can't see what all the fuss is about myself, just another tweak to try and brainwash cantrians into cooperating to building big shiny things...

Ironic of course because 90% of peoples first thoughts when they hear about developments like this is .... 'Yey more pirates' on the assumption that people will readily cooperate to take things off other people!

Mmm must take some happy pills!

I personally first thought: "Alright, Floating city!"
One of my characters is trying to build a collection of longships, a few Sloops, and perhaps some Gallions, with dingies for easy movement. These will be piloted out somewhere in the Great seas, all docked together, and like ...well... a floating city! The smaller craft will be resource runners.
Not even sure if such can be done, as I have yet to have ANY character live long enough to finish his longboat...but soon!

The idea of floating cities in Cantr has existed for a long time.

891-7 (Overheard from Hayden in the Hobbes Encyclopedia) wrote:"Maybe people will one day discover how to make ship docking better. I bet a whole sailing culture could grow from it, don`t you? Like ships could meet up, compare where they`re going, and decide to sail with each other if they`re going in the same direction. That would allow sailors to make travelling friends, and there`d be more people to fend off people who dock for evil purposes. Maybe there`d even be sailor reunions every so often, where lots of boats who`ve already become friends could meet up and trade, share tales, introduce new sailors, have parties, everything."
