"To Spawn"... Is it bad form/RP?

"Spawning", "Newspawn", "Spawnday"...
I have noticed that the term "spawn" is used widely, throughout Cantr, to describe the time when a character first 'hits the face of the Cantr world'. I have also noticed that it is a term that is used very frequently, in-game, when characters are speaking to eachother. Now, I, personally, don't mind it when others say it IC, but I try to refrain from using it myself, as I know people have varying opinions as to whether using said term is bad form, or even poor role-playing.
I have decided to start this topic, to collect up people's thoughts on it, and therefore to aid my decision as to whether or not to use the term IC.

Cantr people aren't born, they appear at 20. I think "spawn" is the consensus term for what happens when they appear.

If it's bad to say spawn or newspawn, what do you say instead?
To me bad roleplay would be someone saying they were 'born', or 'came from a far away land' or whatever. The first one has no meaning in CAntr (yet, and when it does the difference will be important) and the second doesn't make sesne because if they'd walk into town from somewhere everyone would have seen them.
'Newspawn' is the same as 'sleeping sickness', they're CAntr-specific words for something that doesn't have a word in RL, and I like them both.

OK, then. This is exactly what I wanted when I started this off. A pool of opinions on a single topic. Well... that's what all posts are, in this forum. OK, then... A pool of opinions on a topic of my choosing.
That's better. Keep postin', guys 'n' gals.

I agree. Marian, you saved me the effort of typing my own response, and for that I'm grateful

Heh.
I worry more about "spawn" then "born" (or "Floated ashore. On that beach over there. And yeah, I don't remember much."). But I don't mind seeing it being used, though I try not to do it myself.
But I guess Marian and Solfius are tecnically correct.
By the way, I don't mind "sleeping sickness" at all. But it's more of an actual Cantr term, while "spawn" makes me think of respawning in Quake.
/Hellzon - respawn in 10...9...8..

Unless a medic gets to you first, Hellzon.
Yeah, the word "born" is too closely linked with the real world.
No mothers in Cantr...

To me, the word spawn makes perfect sense. What I absolutely hate is when a Cantrian says that this is my mother or this is my father or brother or sister. That's absolutely not acceptable.
EDIT: Crosshair... Your siggy... I think I know who you are... And I would like to tell you that you are GROSS! LOL.

First, I agree with those who support the term spawn... I use it myself.
On the subject of family... I woul contend that it is perfectly acceptable in the right circumstance. For example, the Aragon "family" in, well Aragon

, those terms are used to display certain bonds. We are limited by lkanguage, an those terms are technically correct.
Obviously it is wrong to say "These people conceived me", as that is not possible... but aside from the birthing process, there is plenty of room in Cantr for family relationships.

I personally agree, like those opinions mentioned here, that Spawning, Newspawn, and such as valid in-game CANTR terms.
It's even almsot spelled-out as such in the game description. Characters know nothing about hte world until they are created. I chaulk it up to the concept of Cantreality. Just like I can't repair a crowbar I found, if I'm in hte middle of the woods with not even a bone knife in my pocket. But if I stare hard enough, then after a few days magically the crowbar is as good as new!
Not the same as real life, but perfectly acceptible in Cantr. Just like spawning, *POOF* I'm a post-teen person with feelings and an uncanny knowledge of how to start smelting steel, making suchi, and building a vacuum tube radio that very same day.

I don't use "to spawn", "newspawn" etc. and I feel this is bad rpg.
My chars just ARE, no matter what they did before their twenties, and I think it is ok. For example look at the myths:
What famous heroes did before they were famous?
What Herkules did when was a child? and Jazon? Perseus?
It newer was important to the history!
So my chars just are where they are and they childhood is unknown or myterious.
