What is the Capital Rule Anyway?

I'm pretty sure I know it by now. But a few newspawns lately have brought it to my attention that I can't find an actual definition on any official page, or even in the Wiki.

See the
Newbie Guide shown when a new user creates an account
or
Game Rules section of the Wiki

Ignoring the newbie guide is one thing, but did those newspawns even bother to read the front page?
Playing always from the perspective of each individual character
It's not that complicated...I have trouble believing anyone's honestly confused by the basic idea, even if individal incidents might be tricky sometimes.

It's not that their committing the standard breaches, through misunderstanding or malice. Beyond what you quoted, which is not expanded on at all, none of those sources actually convey what they need.
They ought to know that their characters are separate from one another, but the more fundamental point that the characters are separate from the player and have no knowledge of the world outside the game is not emphasized or explained, and isn't even stated on most pages. That's the real Capital Rule, from which separation of characters is derived, and there's no page to point someone to for it.

I do think it should be explained more clearly in the newbie guide, but still...about the character being seperate from the player, what do they think RPing is?

Yes, they think they're screwing you. Scary thought, ain't it?
I think those wiki links can be edited (by you) if you feel so adament about expanding on the rule itself and providing useful insight. I think it would be useful. I have my doubts they are actually read---I know back when I joined, back in the day, I more glanced over than read anything. However, now there are certainly materials available to educate yourself about the rule. Once there was a suggestion that you should have to answer a brief and simple questionaire on the CR, to show you have the read the documents. The idea was shot down.

I think the questionare's a good idea, they should do that. How come it was rejected?

Because Jos wants more casual passers by to join the game not less!
PLEASE NOTE: If your idea of a good time is to leave a trail of corpses behind you, Cantr II is not the game for you.
Oh I have to disagree

I... don't think that refers to leaving a trail of your
own corpses, though.
I did a quick stint in To Boldly Go (another game) and it had a questionnaire related to the basic help file that you had to fill in, just like someone seems to have suggested. Not a bad idea.
I wonder if there are statistics on account lifetimes, and in that case if there's a significant amount that time out after 20 days because the player lost interest and left. Something for hallucinatingfarmer?

Think? You assume too much...
More seriously, they might assume that it is like in many other games, where RP is encouraged but the mechanics (from a player perspective) and the outside world are acknowledged in-game.

Where? I really just want something like that I can point them to, but the only documents (I read every help file before starting my own account...) on it seem to have dissappeared.
As for writing it myself...first, I'd rather have someone I trust more than me writing something that important. Also, the Wiki is not obviously an official source. I've got one new player who, probably inspired by this:
New account info wrote:As a corollary to this, information about the game world and the things in it will not be available on an `Official Cantr II Website` or anything like it; this information should be shared in-game, among the characters.
Didn't want to contaminate themselves with OOC knowledge, and (quite logically) chided me for suggesting it. Also, I would think something this basic ought to actually be on that page...

Allright, that was written before the findoutingamerulechange, I assume? The actual Cantr page needs to be updated. Badly.
Or, you know, we could stop treating the wiki like a leprotic distant relative and actually refer to it. Since, you know, it gets updated more than once every decade.
Naah...

When I first sighed up, I avoided the WIKI like the plague, for the very reason that scattered throughout the help forums and main wiki-page there was mention of CRB! IG ONLY! DOOM to those who cheat!
well, maybe not so strongly, but it was a good month and three seperate people telling me Wiki=good that I finalyl started using it to help me figure out how to do more than hunt critters and gather food.
And I know if an intelligent guy like me was 'misled' about the resources available as 'helpfiles', then joe newspawnplayer could possibly be just as confused.
