Luck

Have you ever had a character who seemed to have the worst luck ever? Everything goes wrong, no matter how much you plan and how good your intentions are?

Or one where nothing goes wrong, ever, and they seem to live a charmed life?

I've got one of each. One char started out as a thief, stole valuable resources and actually walked out of a town filled with vehicles while carrying almost 15000 grams. Nobody chased her, and now she runs a pretty successful town. (Can't give any more details than that unfortunately, as I don't want to give anything important away on the forums...)

Another char, my first one, is just the opposite. She's had friends murdered, been robbed, driven from her home, had her ship stolen by pirates twice, (and a sad old poem she was becoming kind of obsessed with along with it) and despite trying to land on her feet and be forgiving to the people she feels was responsible was basically forced to leave the town she was hoping to recuperate in over some unreasonable man who objected to her putting a machine the place desperately needed in his building.

For the first time ever in Cantr I was really almost in tears today...it's trivial compared to some of the things that have happened to her (and so I assume the four day rule doesn't really matter in this case, it's too late for anything to be effected by this anyway), but it just seems like she's met with failure and uncaring or incompetent people everywhere she goes, and she's about one more straw away from losing faith in humanity completely... :(

..........yet the next town she walks into might be so friendly, she won't be able to believe she didn't know about it sooner. And her life will be changed forever. :P

The beauty of Cantr......you just never know what's around the next corner.

I have had chars who were just having bad luck or boring lives and I changed their names and everything changed for them. It's surprising but people really respond to names.

You can have a bad name and overcome it with personality but a good name will really help.

Gah! Go away, Mary Poppins, I'm busy feeling sorry for myself! :P

Already tried that! It didn't help. This char is cursed, I tell you...which is kind of ironic because I have another char who really was cursed, by a magical fairy at that, and she's my second luckiest. (pretty low on the list in terms of actual wealth, but in the top three for beign fun to play and having things go her way.)

I want some magic fairy curses! How do I find a magic fairy? Is there a trick?

You must wait for one to be spawned to you. It's really the luck of the spawning draw! Either that or you can draw up your own faery curses. :D

Haha, Dark was pretty lucky at a time. First of all, he arrives to a resolute location, with just one person. An hour later the person kicks the bucket. No witnesses, and she's got nice hemp clothes so what the heck, he takes them. Later he's in another distant location when a guy comes out of a lodge and drops a couple of keys on the ground, saying he's spend too much time inside, you can have those if you like. So he got a house, just like that. There was a smelter and a curing tub and what more? Then later some kid on a stolen bike arrived, stepped down and tried to hit him. He casually dragged him into the house and went on the bike. It's a tandem, the kid comes out and hops on, starts driving, with him on the back seat. Then he notices him and says casually "Hi". Then I killed him. But nowadays he's just standing around, starving... Just because he dragged a note to a wrong building and didn't catch the person he wanted to trade with.

Also it often happens that right after you speak of some sleeper, they end up dying. It can be pretty funny, has happened more than once.

My luckiest character has got to be one that stole from lad, then just walked out, noone even chased him!

He then went on to become the leader of the possibly luckiest town in existance, I'll be vague enough that noone can guess what it is, but first we found that it wasn't a fully deserted town, and that there was a building that once we crowbarred into with the help of a random stranger we found bow and iron and steel equipment

We then struck a deal with a major power in the area (which may be quite a way away from lad now, I didn't stick around for long :P) Which means that they are going to have access to whatever they need

Unlucky char - Tried to live life simply as a warrior (not a very good one) until the Barons came, had to move around a lot during the hunt. He then lost most of his friends to the second lot of Barons and just as he was preparing to resist them he gets kidnapped by pirates. He begins to settle in as a pirate when the ship is eventually taken over by other pirates. Instead of killing the crew these other pirates drop us back into Baron owned lands. It seems my char is just going around and around in circles, soon enough he will probably be kidnapped by pirates again... :(

I have left a few details out to protect other player's chars.

Yup, that's some King-sized luck there, if I'm thinking what you are thinking, all you need is a boat!

Otherwise, I wound up with an unlucky character in some Jos-forsaken land. Never knew the name, never met another person, and tried valiently to find a safe haven with food/building before getting mauled by wild boars and horses at 90% hunger.... :?

Edit: I think one of my luckiest character was one that spawned near the sea with two other nyewspawns. A boat docked, two peopel emerged and one immediate had a heart attack. The other vanished down roads neverto be seen again. He got a boatload of material, and discivered how near a population center he was, where he is now getting setup for his own bakery. Plus, around this guy, other thefts have been miraculously returned, due to additinoal heart-attacks. He must have some death-aura allowing him to accumulate wealth far beyond his means.

I have Cantr's worst luck... believe me...

12 attempts on a lock, while my capturer broke my lock first time?

Imprisoning someone, was about to kill them... but that day ProgD had implemented misses, and I promptly did just that. The person then broke my lock first time, hit through my shield and kidnapped my on a boat... I eventually escaped, made it home... and got killed by a wild boar.

Was stealing a boat, when suddenly he boat warped. Meanwhile someone docked to his boat in the harbour (during that week) and stole it... tried to get it back, but ended up dead.

Lost my boat during that same week when you could dock to docked boats and bypass the lock... lost everything, and never realised as ProgD neglected to inform me of the error for at least2 days but which point the boat was gone.

Need anymore?

I know this happened less than four days ago but I had a character who was attacked twice in a row by boars...

I don't think that really matter that it happened within 4 days :P

I had that happen in QFw... there were only 2 boars there at the time as well... >.<

Yikes! No wonder you're surly! At least the game system doesn't seem to be against my char, even if everything else does.

Meh, doesn't count. Only if this was part of a longer streak...

EDIT: Surly, have you ever had anything nice happen to one of your characters? That didn't end horribly, I mean.
