Travel bug?

I have a character walking between two towns and cannot see anything in her inventory. I even wrote a test note, stored it, and that doesn't show up either. And yes, I have clicked on all of the different sub-groups, trying to open them.
The items in inventory don't appear to be lost, as I am not hungry and if I click own my own name, I can still see where I have clothes, tools, and weapons.
Is this a bug or just something new that happens while travelling?
