A Legal Question

If some of you haven't guessed, I love writing. I do a lot of it, both inside and outside of Cantr. Right now, though, my main project is a story inside the Cantr game.

But as I write this story, I keep thinking more and more that it could be adapted and made into a RL publication. Since it's my own work, would I be violating any terms of service or copyright laws if I took my work out of the game, changed it around a little bit, and had it published?

This is all hypothetically speaking, of course. I haven't actually done it, nor do I ardently plan to; it's just a thought I've been tossing around.

No, you wouldn't, but it's best to get the game's blessing.

That is, of course, if you're not using the game's location names, character names, physics, etc. Then it's imperative to get the game's blessing.

Since the niche for a Cantr story in RL publication isn't very large, I would also consider submitting to webzine@cantr.net , though I'm biased. ;) It may be good just to see people's reactions and so forth, though rather sheltered. You could still reuse and add on to the material afterwards.

Hope that helps.

True... not many people want to read a story about Seatown. 8)

It would need a lot of adaptation, but the storyline and the character names and everything would stay the same, since they're not too embedded into Cantr.
