Revolutionists Vs. Followers

Most of my characters tend to join groups and become followers instead of leaders. While mos tof my characters are now 6 to 7 years old they have gained a lot of trust within their superiors.

What the topic is about is what do people have against things that grow. It seems that whenever something gets big there are enough people who suddenly dispise it.

I'll throw out a few examples. (Cult Mechanicus, the Lad Empire, Siom (specificly Steve) , Dhung (even though their are reasons to hate that place))

This is very unrealistic. I admit it does add a sence of challenge and spice to the game as it doesn't make owning anything too easy, but there are way to many revolutionists and not enough followers in the game.

IF this topic does one thing I hope it convinces people that there are two ways too spice up a game. Try and overthrow something or join it and see just how big it can get. I want to see something trulely get big revolutionists are dealt with within the day, but if people stopped fighting and started experimenting with helping out these already massive groups then we can see just how far they can go. I would really like to see the Lad Empire take over 1/2 of the island.

my chars tend to do either.. they generally dont stay around with large groups or crowded areas, especially if they seem to be having some kind of turf war :D

although i do have several that join up with the enemy of a large group just to see if they can take them down. It posses as a great challenge to go against something large and you dont stand a fighting chance, good to see how that always turns out.

and i have a few that actually join the 'group' because they want to be apart of something larger then themselves (in hopes that one day they will be in charge :D )

Same here. I have those that rebel and then those that join.

I think conflict is a good thing. I don't think Lad. would have ever taken over Naron if it hadn't been for the evil Naronians trying to take the Empire's iron in Northern Ladvicitavoi Forest and one of their leaders saying some choice words about Emperor Alexi Romanov.

Yes. Conflict Good.

Conflict in areas always make it good to rp in, at least for me, and gives a more of a purpose behind the reasons why things are done the way they are done. It also keeps people on their toes and makes for good twists and turns. It also makes areas try to strive better; like the areas will always try to do better than the other, the other makes a sabre, they make two and so on...

I need to have many characters doing their own thing (Not leading or following) so that I can offer a few back as followers.

I have a few that are part of large groups--some just so they get some sense of purpose out of life, and some for the power. some because they started the groups.

I have a couple that are rebels and just do whatever they think will get them ahead in life, and a few revolutionaries.
Some loners as well, though my characters tend to travel with another character for safety/companionship.

ever notice how often revolutionaries turn into the things they were fighting against.

I'd say the character I'm most proud of still was El Adan--sure he never really was that powerful or well-known, but he did start a clan in Drojf that's still (to the best of my knowledge) still around and growing.

I make such decisions based on how my characters personalities go along with the governing power.

So far it has led to quite a few lone wolfs, many followers (some evil), and a few revolutionary types.

But things can change over time.

Silverfoot was revolutionary when she refused to work for Nathan Holm and fled to Seatown Forest. But she later ended up as the commander of the Krif Guard.

And Lorraine Phoenix, once so proud of being part of the Department of the Intellectus in Lad and too arrogant for working manually, has openly called the leaders of Lad criminals and liers.

I don't mind organized attacks and such. Those do make the game fun, but what about those single people who just spawn and make it hard just because they (the player) hate the area.

I'm talking about the people who in the game say. "Ah man Lad again. I hate this place." Then start hitting people and stealing things.

The organized types are pretty boring too, if they have no other motive then killing people.

except it makes it more sufferable as some effort and planning has gone into it

I've also had a pretty mixed up bunch of chars, good and bad, leaders and followers, it all just depended on where they were spawned, the situation there, and who happened to speak to them first. I've only "preplanned" one char, Lunatic Larry, everyone else is basicly a product of their environment, Maynard is the only other one with any OOC inspiration, but only in spirit, he was never planned.

And a thought on conflict: It makes the world go round. And if you don't believe that, then you don't know how many scientific advances we owe to all the world's militaries over the centuries.

I don't really have any followers as such. All my characters sort of want to do there own thing. However, two of them have been absorbed into organizations... and one of them doesn't mind it. Maybe I do have a follower.

I also have a wanabe professional rebel. In a few cantr years, the evil empires of the world shall tremble. Unless I am accidentally crushed before I obtain power.

I have a pretty good balance (altho I'm getting congregated with my chars in one area) and I've only had one jackass of a char. But the rest are of a balance of loyal members who one day mite get to the top in a nosy commercial city or loners with their own I want a house in a quiet town agenda.

You should look for Klojt outside Dory. That place gets a lot done for being so small. It's fairly quite and works sort of like Brunoi with out a central government but a few people who seems to be "In Charge" Although it's even less restrictive then Brunoi if that's possible. Brunoi is borning now. Same with Pok. Pok has just turned into the cussing capital of Cantr.

Brunoi was the best when it had it's Sultan in charge.
