(note: Before this gets moved to Suggestions, it's not an IG suggestion and it's for discussing yet, not completely finalised)
Not enough people are voting, so to make a long post short, I suggest that Cantr development staff should create some form of Contribution Points Scheme. It would be a point system that displays a member's contribution to Cantr.
Currently, not many people will donate as there is little reason to, little motive, and many players are too young to transfer money over the internet.
Implementing a Contribution Points Scheme would make people feel proud of voting and donating and helping Cantr out.
Here is a list of things that can get you Contribution points:
(give me some more ideas and I'll post/edit them up)
-Donating ($1 X contribution points, or something)
-Posting good suggestions
-Registering in a Department
-Completing tasks in a department
-Playing actively
-Playing for more than a certain amount of time (thresholds, ie 1 year you get + a certain amount, 2 years you get more, etcetera)

And then you can lose some, which also keeps people in line!
-Cheating
-Spamming on forums
-Consuming bandwidth by doing certain things
-Being a pest IG and attracting PlayersD attention
-(I'll add some more later when I think of them)

What do you guys think? :D

As long as it doesn't have any impact IG I don't spose I am against. You will really annoy some people here though because they would feel upset if they didn't get enough points and will therefore be anti....

Expect a number of oldbies to p1ss all over your suggestion. A lot of other games seem to have similar ideas, those where donation and voting improve stats or game status become very skewed very quickly though!

my gut reaction here is to disagree, mostly because it may drag OOC activity into the IC game. What would these contribution points reward you with, or would they mearly be an undefined "status symbol". I helped out and got some points?
As long as there is no suggestion to "spend" your proposed points to gain favors in game or otherwise, then I'd accept it. It would be nice to give those who donate somehting little like a special Star next to their name in the forums, or whatever.
I'd be interested to see what the rest of the teeming masses out there think though.

Trying to frame subjective judgments ("posting good suggestions," "being a pest") in hard numbers is going to get people upset. How do you put values on all these things? Whoever ends up running this (CD?) would get a lot of flames.

Surely a lot more flames :D

He did make it clear that these points rewards would have no impact in game!

I imagine it being something like a karma rating that you get in some forums, so instead of post whores you would get karma whores...

You already have the ability to pat yourself on the back.

I think one of the best things about CANTR is how egalitarian it is.

Umm, ain't there something like this on the works? :? Or was it just based on activity?

So long as there are no in game changes, I'm good with it, though I can't promise I'll do anything other than play forever, and maybe help translate the game into Latin.

I disagree totally, because all it does is invite people to have a "i'm better than you" standing just because of how many more brownie points they have.
And who decides what's spam what's not on the forums? I mean someone could post a suggestion, and the next person could just reply with "agreed, good idea". Nothing wrong with it, but because it adds absolutely nothing to the idea then it can be classed as a needless post and in effect spamming.
And anything a player does IG (even if it's being a pest) should not be reflected anywhere else. Say you reported a player for speaking OOC too often, the PD gives them a slapped wrist, job done. However if points come into it then, say it's me, i lose 10 brownie points, you can see that reflected in my points total and immediately you know who my player is when i don't want you to.
Again with the suggestions being good or not, how do you judge what is good? What if an 8 year old kid posts a suggestion that he wants transformer toys IG? Yes it's a stupid suggestion, but the kid doesn't know any better and it would be wrong to penalise someone because of their age and mental ability.

Finally with regards to voting, i doubt i'm alone in not being able to get some of the voting pages (or the wiki for that matter) to load. It's not my fault that my comp is crap and old, it's not in my control and it's not fair to curse me for it.

Jos has said time and time again this is unacceptable, for various reasons. First and foremost, it goes against the CR by providing an unfair advantage to those with OOC means for IC capabilities. I think if Cantr was suffering that much to require additional funds this way, GAC would've re-opened the thought bubble on it.

And yes, there are topics about it. I forgot their names, though.

don't think anyone intended the idea to be related to anything in game at all. But perhaps still not the greatest thing.

And....The transformers idea. Is it just transformers that would be silly to implement, or giant battle robots in general? I need closure.

If it can change Pie's posting behaviour I'm all FOR! ;)

Seriously, about "good posts" I think it is too subjective to be accurately measurable. Registering for departments I don't like either, they're already elitists all those ba***rds in departments. ;) And not everyone has the skill or time to do that kind of work.

Playing actively, well not everyone can spend 200 minutes playing every day (and then an hour or two writing "good posts" on the forum). Completing taskt falls pretty much under my view on the previous.

Donating... ok. "Rewarding" old grumpy players...hm, ok.

This adds up to me being against the idea.

This is all so subjective
Who decides a good post, a good player, hard work etc? What might seem to be a good post to someone isn't someone else.

No one in staff is going to bother to spend the time doing this, and if it's left to the community, then it's up for abuse much more easily.

Points, for what reason? An ego boost for the brown nosers?

It all sounds so hierarchical, which I hate. It's not possible to implement, fairly, and has absolutely no point in it at all.
