Crosszone contact

At Polish Forums was been just announced first direct contact between Polish and English zones :)

This event is great - but I have question: is possible that English speaking chars start spawning in Polish Zone? If yes, this mean real troubles ;) and will be good test for language part of CR interpretation. Polish zone is really big and there is no mercy for CRB ;) so many chars who spawn here can find their life hard. We must find solution to teach such people Polish without CRB...

As both the English and Polish groups use the "spawn near others of same group" system, rather than spawn points, it should be quite possible, yes. But hey, a dictionary should be quite simple:

"My name is X and I'm looking for a job" = (Polish translation)
"Note thief!" = (Polish translation)

That should be it... ;)

/Hellzon - not on management, so this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it...

English characters can start spawning at the location as long as there are english characters there. My guess is that it can only occur if there are two or more english characters at that location (being that english characters cannot mate with polish characters), but I could be mistaken. If the english characters move on though, you shouldn't recieve any more english newspawns.

Talapus guesses correctly . Spawning requires at least two characters of the same language group as the spawnee in the same location (or in buildings/vehicles in this location).

EDIT: The geographical location for spawning is only generated twice a day so it is possible for 2 same language characters to be in a location then move on or die , then a new spawn arrives before the spawning location table is regenerated.

Swedes in Turkey.

And as the swedes experienced in turkey there two swedes stayed for a while in one place and three other swedes spawnd there during that time. When the first to left there was still swedish people present to mate and more and more swedes spawnd there. The same thing is now happening for the third time in Turkey.

If you know several languages, can it be assumed that your characters know several languages as well.

Nope. Your character only knows one language, the one it was spawned in, and may only use other languages if he or she learns them ingame.

No, it cannot. That's a breach of the Capital Rule. Characters spawn knowing their 'native language', so to speak, and that's all.

The rule has always been softer than this ... There is no rule that it is not allowed, it is just that the game is far more fun, for you and your fellow players, if you have the challenge of dealing with language difference. I've seen very funny conversations between a French guy and his English surroundings ... So it's not illegal to speak multiple languages, just not much fun.

Then, if char from Polish Zone meet char from EZ and start speaking in English (probability that EZ char knows Polish is near 0%) is CRB or not?

And if not CRB - what should do these chars who accomplish contact from beginig trying (successfuly!) teach and learn both languages? Start now speaking in English? :(

Considering English players will probably never learn Polish through Cantr it is unlikely any roleplay can be done if theres some sort of rule in the way.

wojd, if I were you, I would stubbornly keep talking Polish. I do the same with Dutch characters in the German region. It's just far more fun. Even when others ignore it.

Unfortunately for me (this is a big challenge!) but fortunately for game fun (I'm not so patient) this isn't char of mine... Someone ask me for advice - and I ask her to not start talk in English :) This was been week ago (4 days rule ;)) so now this can be disputed publicly...

She - without use of English (except * emotes * after PD approval) - teaching EZ char Polish language - and also learn English. She also make use of few ASCII images in notes... Imagine - this is true first contact! After one week they can exchange many informations :)

I remember first trip to Kirghisia (middle Asia in Soviet Union in 1986) when I try to talk with old man who don't speak Russian. We spent two days at dessert riding horse - and we make same - we try to talk about all around. Succesfuly :) This is possible and gives big satisfaction...

Wow, that sounds brilliant! I'd love doing that :) ... So you went several times to Kyrgyzia?

Yes... Two times to Kirghisia. And to more areas in old Soviet Union - from Karelia (near Finland in Europe) through Tchukotka (Alaska in very close) Vladiwostok (close to China and Japan), Chechenia (Caucas Mountains - where now they have war)... I was been very young but I remember this very well. World is amazing...

EDIT: How this is related to Cantr? In SU people in theory had a 'universal language' - Russian. This was true in cities - not very far form Moscow. In other places many people still have very limited vocabulary in Russian - they can read signs, basic texts (like in web interface) - but communication is very often limited, so people (Russians and natives) in such places need to create their own simple language...
