Why only old-fashioned characters?

I've noticed that only midieval type charries are roaming Cantr. Why don't we have characters that say things like "dude" and basically a 21st century person. We really don't have very many. Just overly polite characters or overly rude ones. Nobody is in the middle. Nobody uses a slangy vocabular, but in languages all through the world slang is just as rampant as rats. So why isn't it in Cantr?
Edit: I don't mean accents etc. I mean like 'dude' or 'sissy' etc.

I hardly ever see anyone talking in a 'medieval' way, though I've had one or two characters that always spoke very formally.

And not to start up an argument again, but, um...

Edit: I don't mean accents etc. I mean like 'dude' or 'fag' or 'sissy' etc.

I'm curious as to why you seem to strongly feel the word 'suck' doesn't belong in Cantr, but would actively encourage the above examples? Someone saying 'You suck', 'This is sucky' or whatever seems pretty slangy to me, or at least irreverent and definitely not medieval.

From that last thread I honestly got the impression you were a proponent of the 'Pleased to meet you, good sir. Might I ask where you hail from?' style of conversation. :) (Nothing against that, though I prefer a little more variety myself.)

Slang has to come from somewhere, and in the case of Cantr, it is against the rules to take it from the real world.

So, nearly no chance of much coming around. Too much effort.

There are slang among cantr character like "Newspawn" or things.

My characters have been known to swear, and even then I have other charries asking them what the swear meant. It takes less energy to strip your speach of anything that would be considered slangy, vernacular, or generally real-worldy than have people questioning about your speach all the time.

Now, how about we actually develop some vernacular speach unique to different areas of Cantr? It would give the game more flavor, and it would be fun.

I don't feel any of these words belong in Cantr, I'm just wondering why somebody doesn't. I mean there must be someone who wants to use them.

Yeah I am a proponent of that type of speech.

That's a somewhat fuzzy line...slang is a part of the language, and we take the imported language as not being out-of-character, so one could make an arguement for it being legitimate...

On a word-by-word basis with the examples...
'fag' doesn't make any sense in cantr. Institutional homophobia doesn't exist, so that meaning is out. I think there's also a cigarette related meaning, but those don't exist.

'dude', as far as I can tell, wouldn't have any real problem, though it would seem very strange to me.

'sissy' may even be used. I can't quite see why it wouldn't be. It's not even slang as far as I know. Though occasions to use it might not be frequent.

Slang is such a transient thing. All your examples sound dated already. There's no old fashioned slang there. No-one says gadzooks or forsooth, so why use some other non-natural speech that would detract from the game.

Coramon, you're still new. You should meet Pharap Jahrot, or Keiran or heck, Lil T! I'm sure there are several...

Lil T full pisses me off. It's just a copy of things, not anything original at all. It would just be like if I made a guy called JackKnife and started saying "Oi" and "I hate them fucki.ng coloreds." and "Zieg Heil!"

There are a few dialects in Cantr - the Mac Gregor brogue is one (albeit stolen from RL and therefore not really CR-kosher). But they do tend to be more status symbols that characters use to display their membership in an organization, rather than true regional dialects - I don't think the player population is sufficiently interested in RP to make that happen.

Considering it's been there since the Clan started, albeit borrowed from the beginning, it is surprising to find it still in existence and use today.... In any case, I feel it would be a CRB to take it out of the game since it's already there.

True enough. It would be very hard to remove all the RL influences on Mac Gregor culture.

Coramon, you're still new.

Not exactly, I played for about 3 months a couple years back, and I didn't see anybody then.

I saw one youngster using "dude" and what not type of slang ~constantly~ .... it annoyed me to a great extent - just it does in real life.
