Outrageous repair time

"Fully repairing this item would take an average person 40 hours."

That's a 'new' crowbar.

Granted, I don't know how long it took to reach that state...but the thing only takes 2 days to forge from scratch. I think much the same happens to swords.

You only noticed now? Me and Surly were bitching about it for quite some time on one of the other topics about it. And 40 hours isn't all that bad, I've heard of double if not triple those hours for crowbars.

My characters repair those things weekly now

But now that I think about it, it's not all that outrageous. It's one of the most significant items in the game and keeping it "maintained" constantly is imperative. I think they should just change the "repair" function to the "maintain" function.

Pfft, 40 hours. My crowbar takes over 50 hours, closer to 60. Well, at least pirates will have something to do on those long lonely hours on the sea.

HOWEVER, keeping these repair rates would only be fair if we were permited to use the uhh...whatchamacallit...the projects as a "time-free" zone, where the tools don't fall apart. I heard that staff was planning to change that, but I think that's a terrible idea since that is a good counter for the extreme rates.

Well, it may have been a long time since it was last repared... If so, it isn't so much a matter of balance as a matter of logic...how can something take longer to restore to its original state than it did to produce from unformed material?

I haven't been on the forum much of late, so I haven't noticed other people complaining...and haven't been excited enough to complain myself.

I just checked my crowbar. It would take 99hrs to repair it. That IS crazy.

It shouldn't be more than twenty hours to fix a brand new crobar, once it gets older, it takes longer. If it get too old, it makes sense to just replace things. That's how it works IRL, right?

Why should it take twenty hours to fix something that's "brand new"?

And when's the last time you had to repair a crowbar in real life? My dad's had one on the wall of the garage for as long as I can remember and it's still in great condition. Also, that crowbar didn't take several years and a significant amount of the family's wealth to acquire.

Anyway, the idea of a simple metal bar taking half a year of intensive labor to repair is kind of ridiculous no matter how you look at it....

It's the fact that it's a hunk of IRON that it takes that long.

If you had to make a crobar from scratch, it'd fit all the requirements. As for repairing it, I'm talking about cleaning rust and what not, not mending it after it snaps in half.

This is an example of RD logic.
A year is 20 days, so they want things to deteriorate over a couple of years. But unfortunately, there are only 20 days in a year so not a lot gets done. Many people are finding they're spending most of their time repairing.

*holds up his hand* Raven Traig needed 4 or 5 women in Blaman Mountains (a while back) to repair HIS crowbar... heh...

Meh, try repairing something like that with the skill at awckwardly.
One char is going into her 4th day of repairing an iron shield, and in percentages it's not even close to being done.
Mountainous place, only two other people present, one of whom is sleeping (probably not waking up anymore) and the other one is busy repairing his own stuff.
So, I guess besides skill, also the location comes into play for repairing stuff.
Which brings me back to suggesting trained monkeys that can assist in such tasks.
Or pixies.
But pixies can be real b*stards... and monkeys can fling dung, so monkeys are cool.

I think it takes at least 10 years to rot a crowbar, though I might be giving them too much credit...

The problem I have is that you're more than twice as long repairing the crowbar than you needed to manufacture the thing from raw metal. All the metal is still there, since you can repair to perfect condition. What part of this takes 5 days?

I don't think they're meant to be repaired. If it would say slightly rusty, rusty and terribly rusty, then it wouldn't look like it was somehow broken. It's all natural that they age.
