The Apachee throwing star

I recently noticed the addition of a new weapon, the apachee throwing star.

Now, I don't know how these work, but I marvel at how the programmers could be so blind as to the out of characterness and such of it's existence.

The Apachee are a tribe in America, and the people who created the weapon.

Them being a real people, I just thought it was kind of odd that the game when is all so hung up (and rightly so) about having no reference to out of game things, that this would come up.

I don't know what you'd call the weapon other than an Apachee throwing star (which is what they are called), but then again, I didn't put it in.

I suppose it doesn't really matter. I was just kind of surprised.

It has been around for a while already and people have suggested that the Apachee part should be kicked. But since no one knows a better name to separate it from shurikens, it seems to stay.

They could just call it a throwing star... I'm sure there's many variations on that kind of idea for a weapon around the world. I don't see why they felt the need to label it as belonging to an OOC culture. It's a programmed-in CR breach

An apache throwing star is more related to an aborignial hunting boomerang than a shruiken. It is a pair of large, sharpened sticks lashed together to form a cross.

Frankly, I'm not even sure it's real, or a mistaken antropological deduction. I'd always heard the tomahawk was more traditional.

In any case, the apache bit can be dropped.

Tomahawks are an entirely different weapon.

<sarcasam>Really? I had no idea... </sarcasam>

If you've watched most movies with indians, they typically are equipped with stolen rifles, bows, and TOMAHAWKS. I've never seen any movie set in the time from the colonization to conquering of the indians that featured a cross shaped pointed pair of sticks.

What they did have was throwing sticks. Not atlatls, altough they had those too, but throwing sticks.

A stick you throw to conk animals on the head or otherwise stun them, so you can go up and finish them off. Used typically on small game, grouse, rabbits, prarie dogs.

See, that's the problem, Agar. Your just watching movies. It's widely known that most hollywood movies don't try very hard to incorperate truth, espicially at the time when "Cowboy and Indian" movies were popular.

Good for you, you've seen some movies.

And stolen rifles? There is no peoples that tried to arm warriors by stealing rifles. Everyone bought rifles.

In any case, back to the topic.

It's been said before that we don't hav scotish claymores or austrailian boomerangs or anything else like that, I just don't know why this hasn't been changed except for lazyness.

I'm sure there might have been some unscrupulous traders around, but in most cases it's not like Indians were allowed to just walk up to a fort and buy rifles.

Claymores are roughly translated to "scottish swords" in the French area.

What the hell are you talking about? Everyone sold rifles except too their enemies. The natives had what the white guys wanted and the white guys had what the natives wanted, and one of those things were rifles.

That's exactly what they did, Lumin. You should have stayed awake in history class.

Unless you're talking about India. We don't call them "Indians" anymore in Canada though. Some people say because it's politically correct, but that's all lies. We do it because we have so many people from India now days over here. It gets confusing if you call everyone Indians.
