Refining Iron without Fuel

Postby Savanik » Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:50 pm

I don't know if this is technically a bug, because it's working the way the game is coded to... and it's not really exploitable, but...

If you Refine Iron (Gas) for only 1, 2, or 3 grams of iron at a time, Cantr rounds the amount of Propane you need downwards, so that you will only require 0g of Propane in order to refine it.

This isn't that exploitable because a single 'hour' worth of work in iron is 71g of iron, so you're refining it at an incredibly slow rate, but... thought I should let people know?

Is it a bug?

Perhaps of more concern is that because of these rounding errors, you can Manufacture Steel (Gas) at a rate of 1g per hour using only 1g of limestone, needing no iron ore or propane whatsoever. This is even slower, as the hourly rate is 96g of Steel, but...

Time is a more significant resource than propane.

Being able to manufacture steel WITHOUT IRON or fuel does strike a bit of a uneasy chord with me... :) Even if it does take a really long time. It's like having a backyard transmuter.

[EDIT: Also, you can't repeat smelting projects - which is a good thing in this case.]

Now that I realize they've changed the rates (I know it happened a while ago now and you can produce much more), yes, it probably is something that needs to be resolved. When I was thinking about the old amounts, it was near negligible. Shows how productive I am

... fixed how? :D What is the intended functionality? How should this stuff really work?

Also, I just checked it out again in-game and it let me do it again exactly the same way?

Maybe this thread should be moved over to the General Support forum.

Minimum amount of raw resource required in projects will be 1g.

It's fixed, but changes in Cantr code take time to commit. Work is done, now some time is required. Patience, please...

Ah, okay. It's fixed for a given value of fixed. :)

So it'll still be round down, but a minimum use of 1g on any project, correct?

That's right.
