Newspawns

Postby Shaderon » Tue Nov 01, 2005 5:36 pm

Off another topic....

theguy wrote:I like this idea but it has a IC problem there are so many people who get attacked by mad newspawns
(i feel like attacking everybody who say Hi i am (inserst name here)a newspawn)
it would be hard to tell if it was a war wound or a mad newspawn wound.

How many people feel like this?

Surely all our chars were all Newspawns once?
I'm quite concerned about the seeming Newspawn hatred that seems to be around, I know there are a fair few that are just stupid gamers who get into Cantr and realise they don't like it and want to kill themselves off, or players that spawn in the "wrong place" and want to kill the char off but ALL newspawns?

I have no problem with new players who don't get the game straight away though.

I have no problem with 'annoying' newspawns that 'grab and run' (I spawn a thief and see how far I can get to fill a slow afternoon sometimes :))

The only newspawns that annoy me are suicidal ones where the reason is that the player did not like the spawn location - that's a problem with the player
Or if the RP is awful - but that's not limited to newspawns...

Any game is gonna have it's fair share of n00b hatred - fair dos - the Cantr community is quite good in accepting and supporting new players though
Whoever you vote for.

I agree with Farmer with this one. I don't hate people who don't know how the game works. I really only hate the people who make people's lives miserable for OOC reasons. Those people are just #$%^ers who deserve to be shot and sent to California.

Depends on the spawn.
Myself, I have a few chars who are going places (both litterally and um... non-litterally... dang, I hate when I forget what certain words are!).
They spawned, and even when there didn'seem to be any possibility, they kept going, trying to beat the odds.
A few died on that way to better fortune, one is about to die because he ended up working in a locked place, and still hasn't been paid out (only took that job for the food it would pay... oh well, maybe they'll pay me just before it's too late), but overall, my chars are doing well.
Or at least, well enough not to die in the immediate future - got two on a run for food, from different places that only had animals.
And well, bears and cows laughed at those chars' puny attempts to smack them down with bare fists.

Another person's char who spawned just before one of my chars in the same place, has found a pretty good carreer already, and she's getting my char involved in it as well.
So, not all newspawns/noobs are annoying.

But there's one newspawn/new player who just didn't grasp the concept of the game, kept making OOC-remarks even when other players tried to explain in an IC way that he was crossing the line.
Finally one of the leaders of that place decided to take him apart, and explain how things worked.
Newspawn just stopped playing... bad part is, that at least one person gave him food for being new in that place, while there was already a shortage in that place.
It was being solved when my char left that place in search of food, they already started using him for target practice.

 *she cover her eyes*
I'm glad i never read a thread like this in my early days some of you
newbie bashers are scary

I did all the wrong things to start, never even looked at the people just
picked up what objects i found and looked in buildings. Sending my first
wandering down the nearest path so blissfully unaware.
I turned around after about half an hour thinking "wow this walking sure takes some time".I arrived back in southfields with the i am blah blah blah
and got a complete hammering for picking up memorial flowers.
Next i thought right i'm spawning an assasin (also crap idea now i know it would have been cr) But at the time i landed one in Naron only to confuse me more.
It was then i realised just how vast things really are in Cantrr. :D

Hmm come to think of it maybe it was newbie bashing that made me more determined....

The way i see it you either get the game or you don't.
I have met both, so i understand the frustration and with some of you seeing this for years, i guess you have a few years frustration building.

While i still have the patience i will help new people when needed.
Can't say it always works, but when maybe one out of four finally get the jist, then thats a good thing.

Your message from Cantrr in every turn report is tell your friends get people playing, so there has to be some patience with newbies to achieve this at all, especially from all you people that have been here years, who maybe don't quite remember just how much there is to learn here and with things constantly changing it's not an easy task.
I've only been here about eight months and i still have lots to learn.

I have one char stranded on a boat with the only person who knew how to sail sadly just had a heart attack. Perfect time to learn to sail BUT only to coincide with the name deletion.ahhhhhhhhh
My advice to newbies is read the wikki it's a great great help
*bows low to the creator*
And just keep trying and the world will be your oyster.

Oh and don't forget to *smiles brightly*your'll be fine.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent and Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

I remember when I was a noob.

I asked somebody how to use the shield they gave me. If I had to equip it or something. Back before I knew there was more than one landmass, and I had thought all the lanuages were on the same super contient. *sighs* Those were exciting times, when discovery was always around the corner, and survival was never gaurenteed.

A few months ago, you know, before the wiki.

Now ... Best plan I have to is to see if I can sail around the world. Almost got that set up to. Gonna be a long trip, in any case.
Reality was never my strong point.

I don't even remember my first character. They died long ago...I had too much school work.

Now, my second character is still alive, and I still remember the day she spawned. She got a job, a boyfriend, and everything in like a week. Clothes came the next week. She dumped that guy like a few years into the relationship, and now is engaged to a former army commander.

Unhappy newspawn days turn into good days in your thirties.

Just some less than others.

Im a n00b and I havent met the hatred yet, that is mentioned in this thread. And its not because all of my characters is, ooooh so polite and do what is excpected from a n00b.

I took the time to read the forums before spawning my characters and I take the time needed to read the notes at the location Im at. That way, I think, its easier to get a good start, no matter how bad the odds are at your current location

My very first character, Adienne. She was supposed to be a tall, blonde, Nordic beauty. A heartbreaker in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, I had a moment of stupidity and stole everything off the ground, ran away, and neglected to respond when people chased me. Happened to my second character, but he repented. He died anyway...I forget his name. Started with a B, was with the Newspawn Movement for a short period of time. Worked the Harvester. Anyone remember him?

Mind you, I've been playing various tb-rpgs since I was around...seven. Did anyone with the accursed AOL ever go to KOL's Blackberry Creek? Ah, heaven! Those two characters, however, completely ruined my self-image as a great rp-er.

And, in actual response to this post, I voted that I hate suicidal ones. There are better ways of escapism! Even in-game!
