I'm curious, when your chaacter practises Hunting or Hitting people, I understand that they get better with this, but do they increase in ability with other skills also? e.g. gathering? weapons making?

Or is this something we have to find out in game?

I'm just asking because in real life it's very quickly apparant whether your skill will increase in something when you practise and very rare that it doesn't happen so I think we should know this so we can plan what our characters want to do with their lives.

All current skills related to activities improve with practise upto a finite maximum level .

I have had exactly ONE character get better at something since skills were implemented, and it wasn't my character that hunts 6 - 8 species each day.

A character hunting on Burgeo had her hunting skill increase back before the new hunting was introduced, in between one species and the next. That led me to believe that at least some of the skill improvment code was working, and led me to believe that each individual hunt or other performance of a skill helps increase the skill.

That character was really hunting for sport, although she never did bag an elephant. My Aki character is hunting for survival, as are all Aki characters, but she remains a novice, after ten years of hunting everything nearly every day. That's something like 1200 to 1600 hunts! How much does it take to get better???!!!

Thanks Chris.....

All my characters are still under 22 years old so I can't measure that really but one is starting to hit things with a little force..... when he first tried he alwasy hit things for 0 damage. Today he hit 2 animals for 5 damage and two for 0 damage. Unless he was just lucky

One of my characters has gotten better at hunting, and he does not hunt religiously and is only 23.

Animals defend in the same way people defend, meaning that an injured animal will be weaker and defend for less damage than a fresh, fully healed one. When animals are individualised, their strength being visible would be most helpful to anyone hunting them.

My Burgeo character was doing something like 12% damage to elephants, before someone else came in with the lucky killing shot, and the longbow seemed to just stick at 0% afterwards, leading me to believe those suckers got some crazy thick armor.

And Yes, I am Ryoko. No trade allowed

I'd really like an answer to this. I had a Burgeo character die even though he only hunted.

Come to Aki and find out. Bring friends. We need more people for the animals to eat.
