1322-4: The stone hammer in here is damaged beyond repair.
Since when did things become damaged beyond repair? Did I miss something?

I think I missed that one too.

Thats what happens if you don't repair an item. Bye Bye crumbling bow, and don't forget to repair your often-used sticks. I've never used that stick. I've used my sabre more times than you can shake a stick at, but I've never used the stick itself, maybe all the shaking was bad.

What, did you think item decay was ornimental? It was for a bit, but it's been in earnest for a while now.

And I still... with every fibre of my being... believe you got it wrong with the item rot idea, Industriallist.
It always was a stupid idea... perhaps now other people will begin to see it?

Yep

I pretty much have to agree with Surly here. One of my chars just had a hammer disintegrate, while she was in transit from one location to another. She couldn't have repaired it while traveling even if she wanted to, and it wasn't crumbling when she left. So, what caused it to disintegrate? She's, um, walking. She's not walking on the hammer. She's not attacking anything with the hammer. The hammer is safe and sound, presumably.
Are there bole weevils we don't know about that chew through our wood items?
Further, this character is only 24. She's probably only had the hammer 3 years. I have hammers in my house that are 10 years old and still bright and shiny.
Is the air in Cantr acidic?
So yeah, this whole "your stuff disintegrates even when you don't use it and in a pretty ridiculously short period of time" doesn't seem all that well thought out.
And One More Thing....

The best part is, if you put an item into repair -- an often-used stick, for example -- it will stay in repair without disintegrating, like, forever. You could come back to a building 30 years after you put it into repair, and there would be your stick, in suspended animation, waiting for you to remove that last splinter and pluck it from the air brand new.

Deterioration should be based on usage!

That has got to be the most requested suggestion around, but it dosn't seem to be even being considered.

Here, here. Deterioration based on usage!
Shall I start constructing the picket signs?

It has been considered, and, from what I recollect, it would be implemented that way if it was currently possible...

I really wouldn't mind the hammer being damaged beyond repair is it was crumbling. Right now, it's only a used stone hammer. I got that message while I'm travelling too, so I can't even check to see if that message is true.
Not that it'll be hard to replace, but I'll still be pissed off if my USED stone hammer is now going to be unrepairable.

Of course you got that message while you were traveling. As a staff member stated in the other thread about this, every travelling character got the same message; even those that weren't carrying hammers. No need to get alarmed.

I suggested that deterioration only occur while you are holding the item. Holding the item = usage.
