Cantr All-Stars island

Find the most active 50 players (or however many you think we have that are active) and place characters of theirs on an island the size of Sring-Sri and see what happens.

This quote is from another thread, and it struck me that it might be fun to allow the most active players (as measured by the game itself, based on usage), the opportunity to have one character spawn on a new all-stars island. What would happen if 100% of all newspawns in that area were active/ambitious/competant? It would be an interesting sub-experiment inside the wider experiment.

Activeness is an attribute of neither ambition nor competance, I fear... Leaves activeness which would mean it would be, like, ADHD-land...

I have yet to see an active player that was not ambitious (i.e. goal driven) in some way, either visibly or invisibly, IC or OOC. And I suppose competance is not a requisite, so nix that.

I think this would be quite fun, although I can see lots of power hungry people fighting about the resources while the workers keep sticking a percentage under their belts and trading on the sly...... you know like in normal life ;-)

At first it may sound like alot would happen, but they would probably just quietly farm and work away and the causual observer wouldn't notice much difference from any other town. Nothing special would occur unless some grand goal was thought of and then strived for. Even then, there would have to be general consensus or the island would erupt in civil warfare, because when ambitious people argue, things get broke.

My remark was not intended to mean that such "active players" would make the RP interesting or even play the game well. I was referring more to the fact that it would be nice to actually live in a region where half the new spawns aren't "idle" and half the population lives past 30. It seems heart disease is the #1 killer in Cantr. I probably would hate it if the events page was a mile long with love talk and village idiots bouncing around.

It is hard for a culture to develop or traditions to be passed down when half the population dies in such a short time.

To have a densely populated island (of active people, who log in at the very least: once a day) on very few and sparse locations (i.e. 3, interconnected spots) would be interesting to watch. The change there, whether it's the civil war that ephiroll speculates or a "utopia" of sorts (which I doubt), would be very accelerated.

If you were going to do this, you might as well combine it with a suggestion I remember from long ago. That is, there would be no official language, but rather, all language(s) would have to be totally IC languages. All of the newspawns would already know how the game functions, and thus they would be able to focus on creating new things (such as social systems, and languages). And as an added bonus, you would be able to have older players spawn there from other language groups (If you happen to be a Polish player, but can't speak english, then it wouldn't be a problem). As interesting as an island with all older active players might be, I don't think it is going to happen.

I love this idea! I think it would be great fun. (It might also encourage some others to be more active, to try to get someone on that island! )

Can we try it, Jos? Please?

If that is the case, I hope there are pigs on the island.

Would be something to name my language after. *oink*snort*

Yet, how would *RP* work? Local language?-If so, pointing to resources and stuff might also be necessary.

I would love to play on this active player's island, but only people who can devote all of their time to cantr could possibly want to live on an island with no language. That is the equivalent of learning a whole new language ooc, but way less useful. How proud would you be to say walking down the street "Oh yeah, I know cantrian" It's like telling everyone you are a geek. And don't start yelling, remember I play the game too.

You could use Esperanto. I know it's already available in game, but there's no reason to invent a new international languange when you've got a perfectly good one already in existence.

Or we could just throw active players from every language group in, that would be just as interesting as a new language entirely, and would actually have an ooc purpose, mingling of cultures and language, and it would be interesting to watch everyone try to teach each other their languages. :P
