Temporary Amnesia for the Good of Cantr
When dynamic town names were introduced, it was, in my opinion, the most impotent change given to Cantr. I had liked the idea, but giving each character knowledge of the default name has made renaming towns useless and near impossible (trust me)... if everyone will know a town as Oiratno (west), then any ammount of sabres in Cantr will still have troubles getting people to recognize it as Nickland.
If I was to be drugged and dropped in the middle of, chicago for example... I'd have no clue in hell where I was. It wouldn't be hard for me to ask "Where am I?" and get an answer of Chicago.
I know, some of you are saying "but but... then my travelling character will return home and not know where he is" Okay, yes. That will be an inconvenience. But so was dynamic naming of people when it was introduced. You forgot the face of your wife, your friends... but it caused confusion for one day or two, and then after that it was WELL WORTH THE TROUBLE, as I am 110% sure this will be.
I mean come on, when new islands are found... they already have names for every location? That's kind of kooky.
A pleasant side effect, this will probably encourage more graphical maps, especially in new regions that people have no knowledge of the default names.
It's not like this would cause such a huge change. People in Quillanoi, Blojt, Siom, all the old towns will more than likely retain their old names. Everyone will have to click on the little orange name and change it from "a town with x people in it", to Quillanoi for example. Big whoop. So many people protested dynamic naming for characters to be introduced for these similar reasons. But we ignored their whining then and we're better off. Jos asked me to put this poll on the forums (and you can't make polls in the suggestions forum?), so here it is. Vote yes for a more realistic Cantr.

Although I answered yes, I'm not really interested in forgeting all the names of the locations in the portuguese area.
You know, this area is very recent and when it was started there were no default names in any location, so the dinamic naming has been used since the beginning of the area (sometimes leading to confusions, but that's it's purpose, right?
).
Now, I really don't have problems in forgeting the names in the english area but forgeting'em in the poruguese area will slow even more the development there.
But since I don't know if it is possible to make the amnesia a "local problem", leaving my area unharmed, I won't complain if the amnesia affects me.
And I think the idea rocks!!!

To tell the truth, I really don't know how it works in the English area
, but in the portuguese one we just didn't have names at all in the locations, so we had to give'em the names ourselves.
And one more thing: in my area, the newbies don't know the name of any location unless someone tells'em or they read it somewhere.
I don't know why it is different, but I like it this way.

This explains the white game last night. CSS formatting - HA!
I agree with Nick again. Cantr froze over. End of story.
This is the reason landmarks were made. Lots of older towns have them. You've had time to make one if you really wanted to. If you want to name your town $h!t, then you better have a landmark to that effect. If I was a newspawn, and when I asked where I was someone told me "Welcome to $h!tsville!" I'd figure out a way to usurp the local $h!thead.
I voted yes. Blank the slates.

I'm for it, though honestly I'd rather see this happen with buildings than locations. Lots of buildings are now called something different than their original names, but most towns will probably stay the same anyway.
That would also solve the whole problem of newspawns starting places with offensive names just to be annoying.

I think it should extend to buildings as well.
Buildings should just be the like... 'a stone building' or 'a mud hut' or 'a giant stone hall'.

I voted YES! ...
Although i am a map maker in the Turkish Island ... Although it will cause me great pain ... I voted yes, because there are some places in our island where no one can read the names... The Turkish phonetic is totally different than English.
It will be a great implementation for new lands also.
And I also want to see the buildings in this way too.
It really makes sense.

Yes, Nick, But when amnesia was introduced to char names, then everyone still knew chars in the same location as they were. But didn't know names of newspawns and chars which went to this location, or when someone traveled to other place then everyone was unknown. So, I think it should be done the same way with locations if it would be implemented.
Old chars should know location name where they live and which roads lead to which locations. But only when they travel somewhere else then they should ask or figure from maps which road leads where.
But there are few arguments for voting "NO":
- There are many orginal names invented for new lands which will be lost forever, some islands just could be started to explore, so part of names on one island will be orginal and 2nd part will have names in other scheme.
- If someone really wants to change name of any locations he can build landmark which will say new name and make note on the ground that location have other name. There is good example of this. There is Vlouirryan on Polish island, which is renamed to Los Liberos, and most of chars on whole island know where Los Liberos is, even on some maps there is double name for this location.
- Chars will start to make silly and stupid names for locations in their native language (like in Polish), and location names will be not longer in universal language. That is what I don't like most, because I like orginal names of locations (eg. on first Polish island).
- There already good graphical maps on Polish island, so chars will have no truble to know where they are, and which names other location have.
- This will be next confusing thing for newbie players.
- Portuguese area
- If amnesia should be continued, then we shoul start with building and vehicle names. Because this is next logical step after char names, and it would be weird that someone will go to a city where is building "city hall of (name of town)" but no landmark, and he will know then name of location.
- Many text maps will be obsolute. Someone will have to add at least directions of paths to them.
But there still some arguments for YES:
- Some Polish players yell that names of some locations are very hard and not in Polish language. But, as I said, I worry that they will start to make stupid and silly names in Polish.
- This will force chars to build landmarks. (Even with road exits on it: like "dierction south: name of location 1, direction west: name of location 2"
- Thies will make more RP possibilities. (I like questions like "Where am I?")
- Areas where graphical maps were not used will start consider making them.
- When someone will discover new island he will start to make new names, but with current system it is possible if area have unnamed locations like Portuguese, or if someone have enough motivation, but as I said I don't like that some neat names would be lost forever.
At this point I'm undecidet yet. Maybe someone will give more arguments to vote, but I see that "yes" have more votes, so I gived more arguments for vote "no".
