Radios anyone?

I learned of this from another character, but it seems like we can make radios now! Should make things more interesting.

Has the electronic age truly come? <.< I spy an electronics menu amongst the project makeables.

Methinks Telegraphs and telegraph lines would be a more realistic first step than radios. or telephones to communicate between buildings. It would be very interesting to have such forms of communication during a hostage situation, or a war... <.<

Telegraph makes much more sense, yes.

I would have thought PONY EXPRESS riders would have been the best first step, but the most complicated.

Radios.

This is going to have interesting impacts on Cantr

Hey, nobody complains about having cars and motorcycles before horse-drawn wagons...or maybe some people do complain, but it's still an accepted thing in Cantrian life.

It is going to create some very interesting dynamics, which I don't really want to discuss here, as some people might accidentally use this OOC information IC and ruin one of cantr's demographics.

Not sure exactly what you're referring too, but I do see this possibly giving the PD a headache...

Eh, I'll just go out and say it, it will be obvious to anyone but an idiot anyway once most places have radios. There are going to start being secret radio stations built specifically to pick up radio signals to other places, allowing them to intercept shipments of goods and the like much more easily. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, it does mean the thieves have to have a permanent base somewhere, making them easier to hunt, which I suppose evens out the balance.

Once they become popular, guess the more organized governments are going to have to start keeping tabs on who owns them. If worse comes to worse I suppose they could just post a guard in the building to monitor who uses it...though I love the thought that even a slim chance of actual organized crime may soon exist.

Of course a lot depends on how they're implemented, whether everyone in the room can hear what's being said and received, or just the person using it, what the range is, etc.

The only possible negative I see is that I can picture a lot of scenarios where someone acting on information they heard on their radio might appear to be a CR breacher, or vice versa. I'm sure individual cases won't be too hard for the PD to sort out, but if radios ever become widely used the sheer number of reports might be a pain to sort through.

could put in some great aspects to the game though: having a conspiracy spanding 3 or more cities, Empires will be easier to maintain (and depending how they work; to destroy them), alot of great stuff. as for the CR breach, it'll be a minor ionconvenience

There are already conspiracies spanning 3 or more cities. But yes, this will make things much easier.

Those criminals would have to know the frequency of the broadcast, though, so it's hard to do this, actually. You only hear anything when the sender and the receiver have exactly the same frequency set.

And yes, telegraphs are skipped. They're harder to implement, and for gameplay it doesn't really matter. And we don't have a realistic timeframe anyway :) ...

Can we get some explanations as to how they work exactly?
When the FOIG rule was revoked, I assumed that would mean PrD would let us know how things work. It seems they've just left it up to the players to find out, but they are counting on those players to tell everyone else.
Not just for radios, of course.

I think i've explained them here

If it's not clear then please ask questions

What range of frequencies there are, how much range a transmitter has, et cetera.
And could you add it to the wiki, maybe?
