Revenging the cute

All of my chracters would see child death as more intolerable than adult death. Even the ones who barely comment or act on such things.

It'd obviously have to depend on which character and in what context it occurred. For example a soldier might find nothing wrong in the killing of children when taking an enemy position, but would go into a berserk rage if a child of his nation were slain.

Edit.

Imagine that they are not doing the killing but witnessing it and it is not their child.

Seeing as children would be played by the same people as adults and really are no more innocent than anyone else, my characters feeling more strongly about them would be purely RP. Anyway, cantr would be a world of mature and crafty children, so I don't know that my characters would have any reason for this bias. Those kids'll slit your thoart if you don't watch'em!

In general I think my characters would, at least in the way mr Creepy pointed out :)

I definitly would...a child can't talk, or do anything consiously (spelled it wrong I know) to hurt someone, or hate someone...so there would be no reason to kill them...

Theres plenty of reasons to kill kids, especially since they aren't able to defend themselves as well as adults. Such as to end a royal family line, stopping all enemy resisters or as an example to others.
If something is possible in cantr, you can be sure someone at some point will do it.

I think people will evenually get so disensitised to the killing of kids that it'll become a normal occurance like death for adults.

Undefined - It'll depend on the attitudes of the character who witnesses the murder.

Unless there is a "penalty" for losing characters I'm afraid many unserious players will kill children just to irritate and ruin the game for others...

Anyhow, children should be protected by a community as they'll be the future.
To comment on Pirog, I hope that once children are "really" present (unlike the ones now) spawning wouldn't be available anymore. So if you lose a char, you'd have to play a kid for quite some time before you can do any harm.
Perhaps the first two char of an account could spawn somewhere as teenagers.

That is not likely the case, Griogal. I believe it is thought that there will be a combination of the two. There is quite a discussion on that someone in here, if you care to dig.

Well, if children are born at the same rate people spawn now, and age the same way people do now, what are you going to do to protect them, anyhow? There aren't enough shields to go around, and they might not be able to carry them anyway!

So what do you do? Lock them in a building and slip onions and carrots under the door when there is frantic knocking?

... not a bad idea, actually. You don't have to listen to annoying 'naive child' roleplaying constantly.

It's much more fun not to slay your enemies kids, but to take them away and raise them, brainwashing them against their original parents...

Children should just not be introduced into Cantr at all for all of the reasons listed above. Murder, manipulations, hostages, explotiation, poor and annoying RP, and evem more difficult gameplay. Even if Cantr becomes desensitized to children's deaths (how great would that make this game?) the inital retaliation would be massive. Which, of course, would be a good way to get rid of idiots, but still, somebody, somewhere, will set thier child up as a god and kill everyone that doesn't bow and submit tribute to the snot nosed brat.

What might make children playable would be a safety: Children can't be attacked unless they attack or reach a preset age of adulthood, which ever comes first. Knights started training at the age of 7, but didn't enter service untill sometime in thier teens. With the saftey, children aren't just little targets.

The anyomminity of the net will lead to broad massacers unless something is in place to stop it.
