Discuss the Players Department

Hi all,
Please use this thread to offer criticisms or suggestions for the Players Department, to ask questions, or to discuss the PD generally. Please try to be brief and organised if you wish to present multiple issues in one post, so that we can address each one without too much change of topic in the following discussions.

This is combined from several posts in a different topic:

How about you concentrate on things that will actually help us? Like going too the moderation requests or enforcing your CR policy. Half the time, people won't chase and kill a thief because we are told that if it is against CR, you'll handle it. But often you don't, and some crazy guy yelling about the Soviet Union or Hitler ("Im a nazi an ill blow yer hed ofF w/ m use-y") or whatever the hell else, takes a bunch of stuff, attacks everyone in town and then runs off to the next, without you guys ever doing a thing.
If you have a policy of policing it, than do it, or let use deal with it ourselves.
They said « Thanks, we’re on it. » after this one. But nothing happened at all. She even had time to walk back here. We dealt with is on our own.
I sometimes wonder if people from the Players Departement are still playing.
It does not really seem to me that the Players Departement is very in touch with the players.
And that name is misleading. It makes one think that it is a departement for the players.

You are correct that the CR Breach forum (and e-mails too) have not been handled in a timely manner lately. We've just reorganised the PD, which will have positive effects from now on, but has taken alot of our time for the last month or so. I apologise for the lesser attention to reports during this period. We've also brought on a new member, who required us to devote some case time to training. This too should pay off later, by giving us a quality member once he's comfortable with everything. We've just gained a second new member as well, to help with the quickly growing Polish region. We'll need to devote time to his training also, but then will have a quality member for the Polish area. So, in all, I wish we could have paid a very high level of attention to all reports recently, but we've sacrificed some quality lately/now in trade for hopefully much better quality later.

One of the organisational changes I referred to above is a change in the Chairperson position of the PD. Genevieve Hokanson is now replacing me as the PD Chair. She's already been responsible for some positive changes in the internal organisation of the PD, so I think we'll see a general improvement in response time for handling issues which are reported.
So, bear with us for perhaps 2 more weeks, and then say something again if response time is still not at happy levels.
Three questions.

1. Is saying IC messages like "X and Y are both chars of one player" legal, even if it is true and/or message is camouflaged ("X and Y are "brothers", you know what I mean")?
2. Is it legal to say such messages as OOC in public?
3. Is it legal to say such messages as OOC in priv., even if it is said to char that does CR breach?

I don't think 1 is allowed ingame.
2 and 3 i don't know.
Though it happens in the CR breach forum.

This is definitely not how Cantr is supposed to be played - best is to report the incident to the PD, so that they can contact the player and explain ...

It's a bit on the borderline. They should still not cooperate in the game, so saying this is pointless. OOC comments are allowed, and there are not really rules on this, but this is highly, highly discouraged. Again, better to either report to the PD, or put yourself a message that this is not how Cantr is played ...

Not sure what you mean. CR breaches are not allowed ....

Even if you noticed two people acting strangely, or you knew OOC that they are played by the same person, there's no reason to tell others in game because what could they do? Such info IS OOC, wether or not the player is smart enough to write those three letters in the beginning of the sentence. So it cannot affect their behaviour towards said characters. If you need to say it then mark it as OOC, but like said before, better just leave it to the PD.
Does point three mean that you would speak in private OOC to someone you see breaking the rules? Well if you know the rules then it could speed things up, after all it takes a while before PD can respond to anything and they have bigger things to worry about than some newbies punching pigeons. I managed to explain one person that it's not ok to make one of your characters give food to another, at least without a spoken request. There is no hive mentality between them. And the person understood it well. But things like that are better said in private since one might feel embarrassed if they get corrected in public.
But... telling a known breacher that some other characters are played by the same player? Whattaa, you can't mean that. Since why would you do that, to treaten them that you could gang up on them if they keep breaking the rules or what?

OK here's a poser.....
Two of my chars have ended up in the same place. (ok this has happened twice now because of spawning right next to each other but that's not this point.)
The particular episide I'm thinking of is where I have 1 character that's always been there (A), and one character that's just moved there (B)because, basically she's been scared there. Now do I.....
1. Try and play them to the best of my ability keeping them totally in character? (Because if I do this - like I've been doing but not keeping one quieter than usual - they WILL interact because of the characters)
2. Interfere and move one which will be OOC?
3. Suicide the 'lighter' char?
I'm asking this because I've been told by the PD I have characters helping one another and I've had one conversation mainly because no one else was talking to one of my characters (B) and it's in my other character's (A) personality to talk to her. how can I work this out and still stay in character?
If I can't have a conversation with two of my chars that would happen if they were played by diff people then how can I play my chars realisticly?
If this is so then I might as well just delete my account. (Yes it really does have me feeling this way)
By the way I was told SEVERAL of my chars were interacting.... this is simply not true!!!!!
Please can someone help me with this?

Shaderon, this is something you need to discuss with the Players Department, and work out with them. If you don't understand why they have said some things are not acceptable, then ask. Perhaps you need to explain in some detail some of the relationships/goals/interactions between some of your characters.
It is not fair to you or the PD to ask players who do not know the details of your case to comment on what they think is right or wrong in your case. I will not disclose any details of it in order to help them understand. This is not the place to do that.

I was asking theoretically, for opinions. Not particular to my case, I siuppose I didn't maek that clear but as stated else where in the forums, a few people I understand think it's unclear what to do in this situation.
Whether to suicide, play as you would do if it were diff people or act ooc.
I suppose I should have said "what would you do"?

I would discuss it with the PD to find out their opinion.

As Oasis has said, nobody not involved is in a position to say anything about your case, but in general it's PD policy that maintaining distance (physical and social) between one's characters comes before realistic RP. Even if it's not entirely realistic, you are expected to do all you reasonably can to keep your characters from joining the same organization, working on the same project, whispering to each other, hitting the same people or anything else of the sort. This policy is somewhat controversial, but it is definite and enforced policy, and I do not debate it.
So as far as your question goes, I would say that to "interfere and move one which will be OOC" is the proper course of action. Again, I don't know the specifics. And I'm not qualified to discuss CR issues, either. Best ignore me.

Best not ignore Sho here - he's entirely correct
