To the Programmers: Enough with the changes, please

I would like to know if other players feel the way I do in that I really wish the programmers would stop making changes to the game mechanics for a while and concentrate on fixing the glitches, bugs, imbalances and various things going on that people need help with.

Here is an example. I have several chars with boats and I am afraid to dock anywhere because then I will eventually have to undock and possibly be warped across the vast rhelms of Cantr space.

One of my chars just found an island very far away from any other island I know of. She sailed a very long time to get there. Now she's docked in a nice forest but what happens when she undocks? Will she find herself back where she started? This happened to this very same char when she was first starting out and went from one main island to another main island. When she undocked, she warped back to the first island.

I posted it in flyspray and waited while she floated around eating up her food but nothing happened. There were so many other warping incidents at the time that I don't think anyone even looked at it. Eventually I just started her on her way out to sea again and said, "Nevermind" in flyspray.

Anyway. Please stop changing things for a while. Please make the game mechanics we have work smoothly and dependably instead. I know it's probably not as fun or exciting but...I would definitly appreciate it.

If you feel the same way (or not) please write something here. It doesn't have to be a lot. Just, even, like, "I agree with kinvoya, she rulz" or "I disagree with kinvoya, why doesn't she just shut up?" :D

Just express your opinion somehow, please.

Me too....I still see errors when people pick things up...My boat quit moving , (even though it said I was...the location map didn't change) but I was close enough to start docking...unfortunately..I heard OOC that this is not a safe place...but, now I am afraid to undock from there.

Please fix the problems before moving forward...

OK. Even though I have never had a single look at the boat movement part of the code, I promise I will take a look at it in the morning and see if I spot anything fishy to point Jos' attention to.

That most definitely does *not* mean that I'm promising to solve it.

I'm going to have to agree... adding new implementations is according to probability, almost necessarily going to lead to new glitches.

I think we have enough glitches right now to keep our volunteer PrD busy for a while, so guys, let's just cut back on the new stuff, please?

Yup. I agree too.

We can do our part too, by first looking to see if the bug has been reported, and then reporting bugs or even further details to bugs already reported, so that the prog staff knows what's on thier to do list.

Like that "object picked up is now in repair" error.

Hold off on the new stuff, like reduced nutritional values and more cooked food, untill you've got a couple more notches on your trouble shooting belt.

Yeah! The game was fine as it was before all this crap.

You need to stop intervening and just let societies devolop on there own. For example, all the societies in Cantr to date evolved without the gathering limits. Now that the limits are there, everything is coming apart, or at least going extremly slowly.

Modern type societies do not devolop with Chronic shortages.

And that's not the only thing. The skills, the new boat rules, and the constant discussion of yet more change, it's like living in that Alice in Wonderland book or something. What you can do and have been doing for years might not be possible tommorow, the laws governing the universe (the programming) change constantly, new things appear from nowhere.

People just stop doing things for fear something will happen, or because it's simply no longer practical.

Another example is the ever increasing complication of making things. There are not thousands of people and vast networks to collaborate here.

We live in world with maybe, what, five thousand people? And many of those are separated by great distance, and the pitfalls of breaching these distances are immense. If someone takes a boat from, say, the Polish or German area and goes to the Turkish area, only to be thrown back across the world to where they began, there going to stop trying.

Kinvoya already said everything better than me, though.

Just stop the damn changes, for the love of god.

How about you concentrate on things that will actually help us? Like going too the moderation requests or enforcing your CR policy. Half the time, people won't chase and kill a thief because we are told that if it is against CR, you'll handle it. But often you don't, and some crazy guy yelling about the Soviet Union or Hitler ("Im a nazi an ill blow yer hed ofF w/ m use-y") or whatever the hell else, takes a bunch of stuff, attacks everyone in town and then runs off to the next, without you guys ever doing a thing.

If you have a policy of policing it, than do it, or let use deal with it ourselves.

In defence of myself and the CD... when have we not answered a moderation request?

However I do agree... socities will always struggle to develop if things change so frequently and so completely.

A number of times, aswell as countless CR breaches of the suicidal newspawn variety.

CR breaches in game is different from moderation requests on the forum.

Care to produce a single actual example to back up that particular accusation?

That is not a programming change but a Resource Department. Resources can't fix bugs.

Kinvoya is as usual the voice of reason, it's hard not to see that especially on this one, she is absolutely right.

I disagree with Kinvoya. I'm all for changes and this complaining about them is nothing new. Cantr has completely changed since I started almost three years ago. Nothing is the same and it has continued to change. People complained, quit, or whatever back then but the game has always progressed.

Some changes, we learn later, wasn't always for the good but that is a learning experience for the people involved in making this game. But if changes were never made then Cantr would still be contained on one single page and about all you can do is build some things, hit people, talk out loud, and write notes. That was about all you could do three years ago.

And furthermore, there will always be bugs. Today, the game is running more smoothly than ever compared to the countless bugs and problems we use to have back three or even two years ago. If you think Cantr has problems now then you haven't seen Cantr when we have had major problems. Some players here including myself will remember back three years ago and the time warping incident where we warped back 4 real world months of the game. And a lot of big things happened in those 4 months that really screwed up the game having to play again.

Changes are going to continue. People are going to complain. Bugs will happen whether or not changes are made. And Cantr will continue to progress.

I'm just glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks the changes need to slow down. It's absurd, ridiculous that there are errors and they're not being fixed before something else is implemented. Also..is anyone else having that weird page when they try to access the cantr page :?:
