I am currently manufacturing 12 planks to use in making a machine... and the purpose of the machine is to make planks faster.
The planks do not work on the project yet, its still being programmed... but my planks are rotting away and decaying. Its so sad, I am in such a hurry to make planks even though I don't know what I will do with them. Perhaps I will install it on one of my boats and make people walk the plank.
As for Timber, the adze has something to do with Timber also, but I am still clueless.

Timber is a natural resource that cannot be made.

What is it used for?

I can just hear all the screams now as people chop down their wood:
TIMBEEEEEEERRRRRR !
That's gonna get old, real fast.

Why does timber have to be anything different from wood? I mean, in the real world its no different.

Timber is wood but timber by itself is different than a twig. Timber would be almost impossible to collect with hands alone so you would need tools to gather it. So while you can collect wood for a fire very easily should it be the same as collecting large pieces of wood to build a large ship or a wooden fort?

I agree yes, but if they make all ships timber the old islands are suddenly at a disadvantage.

Unless they put timber on it too.

This probably won't affect older seacraft.
This is more for newer, larger, and faster seacraft that haven't been added to the game yet.

Hm. That answers everything. I was sitting there looking at all the tools and wondering how the hell you could possibly make them.
But how about Planks? Those can be made from wood?

I keep thinking of this, and had to comment so that it can't be said that no one said anything.
If timber is going to be used for building new boats and things, and it's going to be a resource that's added only to islands that have no population on them, that puts the old lands at a disadvantage, and really sets things back.
Think about the characters in thier fourties who have slaved to build a galleon and other boats to have a crew large enough and food for them to explore, and they find this timber, and thier twenty year old crew beats together boats better than the ones the captains spent lifetimes on. Leaves the captian with a black eye on his ego, thinking "Why did I bother with this again?"
I've never understood the "Only on new lands" policy for resources other than a way to justify staffing the new lands dept. Can someone on staff explain it to me?

I agree with you but the powers to be do not. Chances are that timber, logs, and planks will be scrapped anyways.
