Cantr Sex Poll (For Females)

Postby joo » Mon Aug 01, 2005 12:53 pm

I am trying to find out about sexes in cantr - I want to see if there is a difference in what sex characters male and female players create. This poll is for female players - if you are a male, please refer to the topic "Cantr Sex Poll (For Males)".

Then both polls are for males?

I used to have an even number of characters female and male, but now there's a majority of female characters. . . .

I voted mostly females, not a lot of males..

I find it hard to roleplay males, although in real life, I feel I'm kind of boyish.. or manly.. I don't know *shrugs*

I create characters half and half but for some reason, my female characters tend to die more easily. (All the characters I've lost have been female so now I have more male characters than female.)

All my chars are female. It's just too weird playing a guy, (and I imagine it'd be doubly so if they were to get in a relationship with somebody) so I just stick with what I know.

Oh shit! I forgot to include the "All Males" option - and now I can't edit it -oh well, if anybody has created all males, just choose "Mostly Males" and post a reply to notify me...

Me too. Weird. I usually identify with the hero of a novel more than the heroine, so I would have expected myself to create a lot of males, but I somehow felt more comfortable creating females. They're often quite tomboyish, mind

Maybe...creating characters of identical gender to myself,is the nearest I can get to just ignoring gender stereotypes annd doing my own thing. When I'm paying a male I'm more conscious of my gender than I am when I'm playing a female (I've had a long time to get used to being female by now, after all).

I often wonder if all those excruciatingly "girlie" characters are created by men (I mean they might be trying to create their own fantasy , or they just have a really shallow view of women, so they can't give the character any depth). Um, well I actually found out that some of then are actually played by women, , but I still can't quite believe it.

I play all my characters without regard for their gender (except, I admit, when it comes to clothing, and I probably shouldn't do that). . . . None of them have been in intimate relationships or any other situation where gender would make any sort of difference (except in Reniov Forest East, the Land of Strong Women  ). Actually, I'd be interested to know OOC how / why Moanique Tawdre became a feminist. There's no real programmed differences between sexes in Cantr. Not to say that there are no valid reasons for sexism in Cantr, though, but it seems too common to me. How did sexism originate IRL? :?

All the "differences" IRL, other than differences caused by physical things, are made by society, aren't they? And if that part of society isn't present in Cantr (is it? I'm not sure . . . it probably shouldn't be, should it?), why should there be such differences between sexes? Like "this is feminine, this is masculine," "__ has to wear these clothes," "women should cook and clean," "men can't be emotional, they shouldn't care about appearance, they have to be strong," etc. . . . Even the common idea that couples are meant to be a man and a women is an OOC idea that has been brought into the game, isn't it? Not that I've ever heard this stated IC, but I've never seen a homosexual couple.

Ah, well, I probably don't know what I'm talking about. The sex of my characters doesn't matter to me. It's just chance that I have 7 females and only 2 males.

Wrong thread for me, but I agree with nearly all of this...Women in cantr, other than (maybe) being a bit rarer than men, are in no solid way different. Which isn't too well represented in cantrian behavior...

I think I've heard of homosexual characters, though perhaps not couples, mentioned on the forum...I'd guess the lack of couples comes from the rarity of such characters more than anything else.

I find there is a lot less sexism in Cantr than rl. I really haven't run across much, other than RFE perhaps (though it isn't overplayed there, that I found).

I have nine female charries, and six male. I find it easy and fun to play the male characters, trying to think how a guy would think. It's a challenge sometimes, but I think I pull it off pretty good. I imagine they're maybe too soft sometimes, but it's hard to click off the female brain completely.

I had one character who didn't differentiate between sexes in relationships......by that, I mean, she didn't know it was any different to love a man than a women (in the emotional sense). Why should she? Isn't heterosexuality an OOC concept, mostly derived through religion? Okay, maybe it's more natural due to procreation, but there is no procreation in Cantr, therefore it's not a valid arguement. (yet :P )

I find it pretty easy to play both sids of the Gender line. i am a pretty sensetive guy(have you ever seen Finding never land? i LOVE that movy. so touching) so i just act as i would do IRL. also.. big fish. good movie.
