'Dynamic' Naming

So I renamed a building but when I went to drag someone into it, it still reads as the old name. Can we fix that?

I think its renamed only for yourself... Its not like changing the sign. Just changes how you recognise it.

Yep, pretty much. Unless every one renames it to the same name but thats not gonna happen any time soon

I just use it to put little tags behind the name, like the owner, purpose etc.

This brings back the idea of making all new buildings appear as "a cottage" or "a stone building" or "a stone hall" and having everyone dynamically name them as they name people they've never met before.

Of course, there IS that nasty consequence of forgetting every building that your characters learned previously, but that would be a one time event and people would get over it.

It'd be like getting a shot at the doctor's office. "You're going to feel a slight pinch..." but afterwards everything's better.

Who would reteach them the names of the buildings, if everyone forgot at once? I can see quite a few fights over presumed ownership.

Yeo , dynamic naming of buildings/places is useful for making personal notes, but I wouldn't recommend EVER overwriting the original name, because that original name stioll functions a sign for anybody new to the place, and so there's bound to be a constant trickle of new people coming in who only know the old name. And if you ever need to tell a denizen of another town what building to look for, then the old name is what they'll need to know (Curiously contrary to real life, where only the old folks would rember what the building used to be called)

What we really need is a means of rewriting the sign above the door, so the new name is instantly recognisable by everybody. I think that dynamic naming just confuses things. You can redesignate "Pooh Corner" as "the Emperor's palace", sure, and refurbish it accordingly, but it will still look like Pooh Corner to all the visitors and newspawns.

I'd prefer to have a plaque or something similar be able to be inscribed and attached to the building and be visible when you click the building's name.

Building descriptions could go something like this:

Johnny Ray's House - it is a stone building, fairly new, and has a plaque "Johnny Ray's House of Love" near the door.

You wouldn't automatically know the building's name--maybe it'd just show up as (stone building), but most important buildings would have plaques or signs on them anyway.

A sign is a good idea, but I think it should replace the old name of the building entirely.

Put a sign that says 'Community Center' on 'John's House', and from then on everyone will just see "Community Center", whether they be newspawns or travellers or people that've lived there all their life.

And landmark signs should replace place names for everyone.

Yes, I was actually halfway implementing signs, but just never got to finish it. But it's a long-accepted suggestion ...

I like the idea of signs, as long as you don't have to click on the building to be able to read it. Once it's placed, that is how everyone should then see that buildings name as.
