Fighting?

I was reading up in the wiki/skills about fighting and it says "This skill increases every time you attack another character. The size of the increase is directly proportional to the amount of force you use.
When you attack another person, your power is affected by your health, your level of tiredness, your fighting skill, and your physical strength."
Well, why is fighting a skill if the only time your gonna hit some one is when they steal something or hit you first?

. I mean it would be pretty sweet if there was like a Fight Club where you could go to raise your fighting skill and fight other people but otherwise I think its a pretty useless skill because if you hit some one people all around you are gonna just keep hitting you until you die

. I mean, I think there should be setup places where you can go specifically to raise a certain skills I mean like a building in a town or something. What do you think?. Btw do you know if there gonna implement a character stats page eventually where you can just view there skills & what not?. Because in the wiki they talk about character genes and stuff but yet they don't have any thing about genes or skills in the game

Well that is something your character cna organize.

It doesn't have to be programmed.

Good point. This "skill" should in theory massively advantage those in authority who have locked buildings and can arrange to have mute newspawns dragged inside to be used for target practice. However, I've had characters do a lot of hunting and there's little evidence their hunting skills improve much, so I'm not sure it's worth it in the case of combat either. I'll also have increasingly limited time to play the game in the coming months, so I guess I won't have the perseverence to treat it as a levelling-style mud or "Fight Club"--which seems to be the idea. Certainly, I have a
lot less confidence in the game since this nonsense was introduced.

They've implemented fighting, hunting, and farming.
I've never seen an increase in fighting ability, though. Maybe the rates are just too low.

I have a charector who hunts ALOT, his hunting skill hasnt budged an inch since skills were implemented.. Kind of makes me a lttle skeptical about the "Practice makes perfect" Theory...

If there was some bug that was preventing chars from improving their fighting and hunting abilities through practice how would we know?

Farming and digging were recently fully implemented as to my knowledge. Recent as in the last few days. Combat and hunting I do not if they have been fully implemented. The only person that can answer that is Jos and he guards the skill system with his life.

Yes, your character is definitely increasing his skills, but I might have set the effect too small ...

I have just one thing to say....
Until I see someone go out and make all of the changes that they are suggesting, into a game that they created, I am going to praise Jos for his hard work. And I am not going to complain about the changes that he does implement. While I will state my opinion, whining isn't a way to get things done. Congrats, Jos, on making a game that is actually fun, and that is not a hack-and-slash game (that goes for all who contributed in making Cantr).

Skills - good
Combat skills - bad
Recent change which now means one of my characters doesn't save anything with an iron shield - absolutely terrible
