Why the hate for the KDS Region?

Postby Genevieve » Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:53 pm

I don't understand the hate some people have for the KDS region. Hands-down my favorite charries have been there both on the original account I had and on my newer one. So please, don't just answer "because I hate it" but tell me a good reason why. There are some GREAT rpers in the area. I won't mention them, but I can think of several off the top of my head.

I agree with you one hundred percent and then some. It epitomizes society simulator and roleplay all in one relative area. :-D

Perhaps the reason is because the people who 'hate' KDS have only accepted the image of the Region on a shallow level and resent not being included. You really only get a full appreciation of it when you've been playing there since '03 and have your [favorite] character's fate intertwined with it.

That depends on your idea of a great RPer. And who you are talking about. In my experience, the RP is not as good as everyone likes to rave on the forum.

I don't enjoy RPing there. That simple. Yes, there are good characters... but there are many, many bad RPers. Combined with the whole air of OOC CR breachiness that hangs over the area, that produces an area that saps all the enjoyment out of Cantr for me.

Oh, and I like the Nosse. They are one of the few redeeming features of the region, IMO. On the other hand, nothing good ever happening in DHN while I was there (and I had a character there who made his 30s before he starved himself through depression).

And I have been playing since '03. I still hate the whole region.

I only hate Krif (HATE!) and Seatown Forest (sort of) and Dorjf (kinda).

Krif because of the snobbery and elitism of the established chars. Even the ones who are kind of friendly are just sort of indulgent. I've had six chars (from two different accounts) either spawned there or passed through/tried to get established and all of them left after feeling systematically excluded from their society. They really need to recruit someone into town Public Relations.

Seatown Forest is just officious and unpleasant. It seems that whoever is in charge is always a bitch. (I miss Jo Jo!) Here again there seems to be a lot of favoritism and little room for new chars to establish themselves.

Dorjf is friendlier and throws a good party. I get tired of all the whispering between the town principals though, and the out loud talk is generally dull.

I personally love the MacGregors. My chars have never had any problems with any of them. In fact, one would probably be Mrs. Lord MacGregor now if she hadn't gotten tired of Mr. Flirty McLord sleeping so much that she took off! Hee. I love it when they are in town. They liven things up with their threats and huffiness.

I have never been involved nor intererested in any political intrigue that may or may not be going on. My chars are totally unaware of it.

I love the smaller towns in the area, though. In fact, my chars are avoiding big cities altogether, it seems. My OOC influence, I'm afraid.

Most of my loathing is reserved for the 'D' part of KDS, since admittedly I don't have a ton of experience with the rest. (Though Seatown Lakeside can be fun if you don't rub the natives the wrong way. :) )

In a way I think Drojf is a victim of it's own success. Everyone is too fat and happy and stagnant. There's no real conflict, nothing left to strive for, so the result is that people just seem to stand around and treat the town square like a chatroom. I think the only way that region is going to be interesting again is if there's some kind of major shakeup or threat to motivate people and get them unified towards a common goal. Unfortunately they seem to have dug themselves so deeply into a nice safe rut that that may never happen. (Actually, the same could probably be said of a lot of Cantrian cities...)

They refer to towns. If you read the other posts here, I am sure you can figure out which is which.

I just have a problem with the fact that all my characters seemed to get sapped into that region. At least 4 of my characters spawned in Seatown Forest alone. It's hard not to break the CR when so many characters are in the same area. I have managed to spread them out now though. (Also I don't have a single character on the K isle)

Oh yes, that's another thing I can't stand. The moment one of my characters has the bad luck to end up with Drojf I'm filled with dread because I know the next five or six will also end up either there or one town over. :?

When you hear that coming from someone who doesn't start his sentences with capital letters. You know our generation is fucked!
