For the old Yahoo! crew

Postby rklenseth » Mon Jun 06, 2005 1:23 am

I decided to go over to the old Yahoo! Board. You know, the one before this one and I'm going to post some old interesting posts from way back in the day (that is 2002). Oh, and to my pleasure I found that the spamming has stopped. Must be part of the new upgraded Yahoo!

Well, here is my first finding; remember the days of complaining about Lad. and the infamous Cliff and Mikey arguments. Those two would make a fine couple...

cliffietheman wrote:I can see that people are finding much more time to write on this
since Cantr is down for some time ... because there are always 10,000
more messages to read when I log on here ... [Kris - If you are
reading this, you might want to get someone else on as a moderator
who is active to start deleting posts! There is something like 1100
or 1200 now!]

Okay, I'm going to try to make a few comments to just finish up the
argument that Mikey and I already declared over (which is why I have
such a hard time understanding why people say "Why can't Cliff just
meet Mikey in the middle?" DIDN'T I? We quit this already!)

- First off, I am confused by this statement:

"But, what I am arguing...is the fact people who have characters in
lad, never kill for just no reason."

I'm not exactly sure what this proves, as this is what I (Cliff)
have been arguing. People say (including the author of the
above) "People are killed in Lad for no reason," but the statement
above says that people have a reason to kill the people who die,
therefore, people who die do so for a reason, right????

- Thanks to Jerry for actually making the statement (and getting it
recognized) that I have been trying to say! I am NOT Lad., I just
like it alot and helped make it the way it is. Lad. is lots of
people, who, I would like to point out, have not complained about
anything. I can count as many people saying "I haven't seen anything
wrong" as I can that are complaining ... but no one responds to their
stuff. [Additionally, a warm thanks goes to Cathy who actually sided
with me on this one ... we normally don't get along, especially since
my characters assasinated hers =)]

- Nobody provided proof about any of their comments in Lad. Richard
said that the people in Naron were ordered killed ... ? Okay ... so
what? People in Naron Forest are one stop away from Lad Forest
(north), which is constantly getting the crapheads that Lad. is
defending themselves from. What are they supposed to say? "Excuse me,
Naronians, we are taking this over in the name of Lad., would you
casually leave the Forest and return to your homes, dropping any
weapons you might have so that we can ensure our own safety?
*Bows*" ???? Hell no! It was an INVASION:

"NOUN: 1. The act of invading, especially the entrance of an armed
force into a territory to conquer."

Unfortunately, Lad. isn't used to playing games with people. They
tend to just act. How does the fact that people were ordered killed
prove your point. What did they do? They existed. ( <--- that'll give
all of you who can't let anything go to play with for a little bit. )
They were Naronians, and the entirety of Naron was causing problems
for people. It's okay, though, as Georgy-Pordgey W. gets the same
crap for bombing the crap out of people who harbor terrorists and
crap ... Lad. is only defending itself. Technically, there is a war
going on. If the game had a way to take hostages, trust me, they
would have all been captured. SLAVE labor is better than dead people.
So, for proof for what you were talking about, I meant PROOF, not
turning what someone said into something that it was not.

- There have been so many posts, I can't remember who said what.
Someone said that Lad. doesn't warn the people before they die.
AGAIN, I AM GOING TO SUGGEST THAT IF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO MAKE ANY
COMMENTS, READ THE RESTS OF THE POSTS. I think it was either
yesterday or earlier today that I posted PROOF that we did provide
proof. The only reason I can only post one proof is that I only keep
14 days of logs, and LAD DOESN'T KILL PEOPLE EVERY DANG DAY. They've
done "Idle Removal" twice in the past six weeks. ... =)

- That song was funny, but calling Lad. greedy is not cool. Again,
if Lad. was "greedy," Naron would have already fallen. Plain and
simple. =)

- I am getting tired, and there are some hot chicks on the TV
distracting me, so I can't remember everything that I have thought to
say. I do have one last thing to say: IT'S TIME TO GET OVER IT AND
MOVE ON. Forty times we have already ended this conversation and I
(Cliff) am not the one who keeps bringing it up. I am the only person
who is defending anything here ... everyone else is on the offensive.
I haven't bashed anybody ... I don't like some places, and I don't
like how some places get venerated when their pasts are 10x worse
than Lad.'s, but I don't point out their flaws. You know why? I just
don't care. It's a game, and people are pissy because they are
getting to do whatever they want ... exactly like Jerry said. I'm
tired of arguing for Lad., because I am making the same posts over
and over. If I had had any sense at the beginning of all of this, I
would have made 4 posts, saved them to my computer and copied them
over when the same people say the same things over and over and over.
Again, GET OVER IT. If people put as much effort in working on
bettering thier own characters and societies when the game is back
up, Cantr would be much better for those players. And yes, I do think
that some people get all crabby with Lad. and those who run it
because they are jealous. I honestly won't lie about that. When
someone says "I don't like that!" and their own reason why
is "because they just aren't the way I want them to be" is jealousy.
And the "ignorant" thing ... sweet crap. How many times do I need to
post it's definition? I should have just said "YOU DON'T KNOW
EVERYTHING" and been done with it, because that is what I meant,
because: YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING. People keep telling me what my
characters do and are going to do ... what is up with that? "Lad. is
going to take Naron!" Well, no, because that would mean my character
would have to order that. Thanks for playing my characters! I'm sure
you do better than I!

Well, have a great Turkey Day to all you Americans out there ... have
a good every other day to all the rest of yous! (I'd rather be the
latter ... I hate Turkey Day!)

Cliff

PS I am not making any more comments on Lad. unless someone PROVOKES
me. I am really sick of it. Mikey and I stopped this discussion. Why
can't everyone else?

Cathy_Willey wrote:Okay. I think if I see one more post about Lad I'm going to scream.
I'm going to contribute my two cents - hopefully *constructive* two
cents - and then let it die.

Cliff was absolutely right when he said that he and I don't get along.
(And the not-getting-along dates to before his characters killed mine,
so, nyah. :) ) We seem to have radically different ideas of what the
goal of Cantr as a game is and what the best way to go about achieving
that goal is. I have an intense dislike for the way Lad is being
run. That said...

Alexi Romanov can run Lad however the heck he wants. He is in charge
of Lad. He and his minions are allowed to kill anyone they are able
to, including just-spawned newbies whose only crime is to farm food
if that's what he wants. Whether or not he's actually *done* so, he's
allowed to break agreements. Whether or not he's actually done so, he
can lie, cheat, and steal, the same as anyone else, if he chooses.
There is no rule requiring in-game honesty.

Complaining in this group about how Alexi runs Lad will not change how
Lad is run. Whining about "But he's not playing fair" will only get
results if someone comes up with evidence that the Capital Rule is
being broken - *EVIDENCE*, not accusations and finger-pointing and
name-calling. The GM's are unlikely to intervene unless that happens.

If you want things to change, do something *in the game* to change
them. Alexi is powerful - but he doesn't have a monopoly on the
sources of that power.

Now....please, if you have any care, concern, or compassion for the
mental health of your friendly neighborhood Cathy, let this stand as
the tomato, condiments (onion/garlic/shallot puree, anyone?), and
upper bun of the dead-horse-burger we are cooking. I'm already shaky
enough from not being able to actually *play* Cantr... :)

See, Brandon, Bowser did exist back then...

Bowzer wrote:As I wite, I will use "I" and "we" for my chatacters, its just easier, its not some mindframe that I am actually too invested in my people and out of touch.

One of my characters lives in a nice little, very active village. We all work together, and we recently began to get a little more organized. If someone in the village decides you deserve to die, you get sliced by about 4 sabres, 2 swords, a hunting bow and a random chisel across the nose in the matter of 10 minutes. No one really questions the morality or right/wrong of this, its clearly mob justice. If you are on the other end of one of the villagers pointing at you and calling you a "witch", you will be dead, sorry.

I called for the death of someone cause they were silent, I asked them to speak, they were still silent and then starting a new weapon project... I took this as an insult and a conspiracy to take over. Took us 2 days, but he got kilt.

I helped to kill a girl because someone told me she was secretly trying to take over. I didn't ask questions, I just made the first strike and everyone followed. She died that day in minutes.

Some people are killed for picking things up off the ground, other people are warned, there is no rhyme nor reason, and we don't care. Depends on the mood or who sees it first. We are a group of good people, just a bit too hasty and very untrusting of strangers and despise theives.

We killed a guy who arrived in our village and picked up some wood off the ground, then he asked an OOC question like (OOC: Billy Bob, you here?). Unfortunately he died before he was answered. We didnt ask him for the wood back or even tell hi

m why he was given a death sentence. Seems he was leading a party through the woods, once they caught up to his dead body, I admitted to them I may have been a little to quick with my weapon, "my bad". They joined our village and are living happily.

The moral of the story is: You may die for no "valid" reason (according to you). But you did die for a reason, and it was valid enuff for the crew that had the power. Go become powerful and make your own rules.

Naron had their chance, they just wouldn't stop sending their men into Lad forest north for iron, so it was stopped for them

Xians as in the map spread by Pikenal or something? The person who introduced me to cantr was responsible for some of them.

Xians were a group of players that cheated. If you played back then in the 200s then they would have been infamous.

I remember The Black Plague, and the Xians. I dont think The Black Plague was ever really found out were they? Just eventually died out cause of the players losing interest perhaps?

I slso remeber one or two others that were pretty large (cheating wise)

I like the old forum's style of posts. There weren't a bunch of topics to browse through and reply to separately like today. You pretty much got on and ranted your opinion on...everything being discussed. :D

Yeah, the Xians are who I thought they were then. I looked after the guys account when he was on holiday before he started cheating.
