Newbie questions

Hi,

First of all, i have to mention that, i am a total newbie and have some newbie questions. Please do not read the rest if you do not want to face with Cantr Basics questions

 As i had some problems with my application i had almost 4-5 days of time to travel all around the forum... I also read FAQ, the rule about Capital rule, and a lot of threats about basics but i have some quesitons in my mind...

1. How do we act... i mean how do we show our movements to the others? i solve this problem like this: *Gyrus looks at the cottage construction and says* Do you have a lot work to do sir? Maybe i can help you"

2. Is there an explanation about how we become 20 years old? Or should we create our pasts on our own... But I do not know anything about my parents or where i am born... So should we lie about our past or behave like we have some ilness which makes us forget our past? (If this breaks the capital rule please do not reply)

Thanks for the help...

I suggest if there is a special newbie section than people who do not want to face with these silly question will not get bored ... Only a suggestion

Yours,

Gyrus

funny, but I was thinking about how to explain similar questions to newbies earlier today.

ok then, so 1.

Yep, you're right, using asterix ** is fine for separating roleplayed events (or emotes as some people call them), just remember you can't roleplay something that is controlled by game mechanics like affecting the physical environment. So, *he shoots a lightening bolt at the guard and kills him* is wrong. But things explaining your movements, expressions, body language, and how you say things are all generally fine. I personally recommend that if you mention an action in an emote, that you follow through, so if you say *gets out his needle and begins to stitch a pair of trousers* it's kind of expected that you work on a trouser project.

on to 2.

There's variation as to how you respond, bascially you start with only what you can see in the interface (which includes the build menu, clothing menu etc) plus some basic knowledge, like you need food to survive. As there's no children/reproduction in Cantr you don't have any parents/family by default (no reason you can't form a family somehow though) so you wouldn't need to worry about any of that, but as for prespawn history, it's best to just play from aged 20, and ignore the fact you don't know what happened to the other 20 years. I have seen it explained in the game (one character's point of view) that Cantrians grow for 20 years before spawning, like a plant growing from a seed.

Hope that helps you :)

What Solfius said, and I'll add that no one's going to ask you about your "childhood" or anything like that anyway, (because children don't exist) so don't worry about having a backstory.

I'd say to start with, all your character needs is a basic personality. And even that shouldn't be set in stone, because you never know where you're going to wind up. (Pre-planned, "pre-packaged" characters are usually pretty identifiable, and a lot of times their RP seems forced since it doesn't make sense for the town they've spawned into or the limited things they've been exposed to.)

There's no point in trying to plan too much out ahead of time, because the fun part about Cantr is letting your characters develop naturally, based on their surroundings an experiences. Just let them happen and no two will ever be alike. :)

 Not all newbies in CANTR are newbies to Roleplay

I surely know that i can not create a storm because i want to  I have a RP background for 8 years... But i can prey to the gods right 8)

Anyway that was the joke part ... But i think we really have to put those basic steps in FAQ because there would be a lot of confusions related to lack of knowledge..

FAQ's should have all basic steps ...

Maybe it is better to create a "CANTR for dummies" page and write down ALL the basics... Because people will have a lot of questions in the basic.. like how will i emote or what is the whether like?

Anyway i will write those to FAQ part also...

Thank you all for the help...

I adore this comunity... :D

Ooops i am sorry,

Do not wanted to start a fight ...

I really like the community and really apreciate the forum users who are online like always :) Anthony, Nick(green headed boy), Brain-Muffin, Oasis, Dee, Industrialist, and so on.. all the others i can not remember at once ...

I think we should put some 200 min. regulation for the forums also  otherwise we will loose our social lives ... (My girlfriend watching TV alone and i am looking after my CANTR babies)

But look how sweet they are :P are not they ... :D

P.S. we really need some professional help (in a physicology clinic)

You're sound like a Cantr addict already, and it's only your first day!

May God have mercy on your soul.

Oh, and try not to neglect your gf too much. Players have been known to quit because they lost the balance. Would hate to see that happen to you.
