bike usage and vehicle lock

Greetings all, I just pilfered a bike from my deceased benefactor (may he rest in peace) and ran off elsewhere. 
But I have a little problem. This bike has an unlocked lock on it, and I don't have a crowbar to get it off. Can I build a new vehicle lock on the bike? Can I just build a key for the lock? How do I secure the vehicle?
Also, the bike has a strange interface.. it is somewhat like being inside a building that moves. While in town, moving inside a bike makes you lose sight of people. On a road, you cannot depart from a bike - does this imply that you can't see people on the road also? I would really like to see other people on the road while traveling, because if I don't, it will get boring, and also, I would like to stick out my weapon of choice while my bike whizzes by. To be amusing, I will blubber in iambic pentameter before I hit someone with my steel based weapon.
I realized you can build things while on a bike. Does it actually work? How about building a building on a bike?
