Don't be opportunistic! Don't kill off your characters!

It seems that a common trend in this game is to intentionally create a character that is supposed to end up in a certain place, out of preference of the player.
This is obvious as there are constantly people appearing and starving to death, never doing ANYTHING ever, as they did not appear in the desired location.
Also, people decide that after there character gets in trouble or an undersirable situation, they simply quit, leaving them to starve.
This is rather annoying, and detremental to the game.
Think about it. In real life, billions of people are born in poor places, in warzones, in places of hunger, under military rule.
In truth, most people are born in a tough spot. And as you can see, these people do not just decide to keel over and die, so that they can come back to life in a first world country.
And when people have a rough time in life, most people do not starve themselves to death. They try and get through it.
We need these people. They are part of real life, real societies, and should be part of Cantr too.
So, please, if you have a character end up in a good situation, great! Good for you!
But remember, adversity has given rise to the most interesting situations in history!
So please, if you end up in a tough spot, just keep on trucking! Chances are, you'll either die soon, and not have to deal with it, or come out Che Gueverra!

The thing about Che Guevara is he had non-zero skills.

Killing off your characters like that is a blatant CRB.
Schme, please be mindful of how you post your posts, in forum etiquette.

Someone agrees with me....
Most of the people who kill off their characters or let them sit and starve are players who either hardly use the forums or dont use the forums at all. And in that i think it gives them a big disadvantage. Also people who do that are often newer players.
Ive had the pd kill off several of my characters before, but thats only because ive had 2-3 in the same area already.

It pisses me off, but it's kind of funny.
Unfortunately we can't tell how many of those newspawns are just players who sign in to check out the game and lose interest, or if they are players that are killing off a character that they're too lazy to just play out. Believe it or not there is more to life than killing everything that moves. Try playing a grave digger for a change and clean up after the characters you like to play.
It might be worth adding a line to the CR rules page for those players that don't use the forums, just to clarify that this sort of behavior is a CR breach. Someone else also suggested implementing a way to tell if a player is logged in, so we could tell if sleepers belong to an inactive player or if they are just being ignored to starve. That would help us be able to report the crime to the PD, or let them be able to detect it and deal with it if they feel inclined.

I think an indicator that lets players know if a char's player is logged in is the worst thing we could add to the game.
Maybe one that lets PD, if they're logged in as PD, know when the player last logged on etc. wouldn't be bad, but letting players know when other players are logging in and out is nothing but detrimental.

Yeah, makes me picture the matrix with just watching code all day on a little screen.

Makes ME picture the following:
"Gee, I want to kill someone but I don't want the town guards to stop me. Hmm, they're all logged off. That's convenient." *kills*
Or
"Oh good, ____'s logged on. We can do such-and-such before _____ wakes up"

Yeah. Never ever even think about this, please...
Though I would suggest that the PD could probably come up with a script to detect characters belongoing to active players who aren't being cared for...say have been hungry for N days and have taken no action in that time...
Interestingly, I once got a message (not threatening, just curious) on my player page asking about the death of one of my characters. Nothing odd about that death at all that I noticed, but apparantly it hit someone's radar. I'd think there'd be a
lot of suspended accounts if that kind of attention were more common.

Oh great, the force-feeding police.
"You vill feed your charrie Jo Schmo of Blojt at vonce or else, ja?"
Just how many more players do you guys want to turn off the game? All except say six who work in the PD and a dozen or so especially ardent fans?
Even some of the best roleplayers around here have admitted to having had some of their charries terminated for lack of time and suchlike, but obviously they chose those they were least satisfied with.
Then some while later they may decide to make a new one or two after all. Which may in turn help keep the game interesting for them. How on earth is some auto-bot supposed to recognize differences in intent?

Um, no...that would be for the PD to deal with. I'm not talking about an automatic account suspender or something insane like that.
But do you think there are legitimate reasons for masses of ignored starving characters?

Most people who join Cantr don't stay long, in fact.

A lot has to do with the screening process that takes place during sign up. You get two characers but you have to wait about 24 hours to start playing. A lot of people who might be looking for a game one day might not be interested the next because they continued to look for a game and found a different one. So I'd venture to say that most people don't even sign on to the site. If I remember right the screenign was to rule out any names that were innapropriate but with the dynamic naming system is this neccessary anymore?
