Leaders, politicians, heros, villains and the like

I do not know much about the world I Cantr. I have only had a few characters, one at a time, most of whom have died quite young.

And so, I seem to have a great lack of history.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me about great leaders, politicians, generals, hero's, villains, and whatever else.

If they were your characters, all the better.

All I ask is that you not breach CR (tell me about something that happened at least a few days ago, the longer ago, the less cheap it is)

And could you tell me a bit about the places in which I happened? Keep in mind, I don't know anything.

Well, I look forward to your stories.

Have fun!

Um...the way you talk about the CR worries me. You probably know this...but no matter what you learn here your characters do not know it.

Um...I don't have any actual info to contribute. I've collected some interesting bits of history in character, but I haven't lived most of the good bits.

Oh, no you misunderstand!

I know that perfectly well! I do not intend to use it at all.

That is precisly the reason I was hoping for very old stories, so that there would be no chance the info would be helpfull.

I am just curious.

If you have some interesting history to share, I'm all game.

Not anything all to new though, if you can help it.

Damn you people for not indulging me! Damn you all to hell!

Learning the history is half the fun of being a newbie, Schme. You should relish the novelty and freshness of the world, before you become so accustomed to it that it is as dull as real life (because it will be your new real life  ) Just like Billy Madison talking to the fourth grader, don't ever grow up! Stay here as long as you can! It's happy here!

If you know all the history ahead of time, you'll just end up saying things like, Oh crap! Another character in Karnon again!

I still don't know the heck about Cantrian history since everyone just presumes you were there or have somehow magically learned about it (forums?). The people writing about history should think about their readers and realize that they actually did not know those people, they don't have a clue of who someone was, what they were doing and so on. That's why for example the Ranger's tale is almost unreadable to someone who doesn't know the background.

That's why there are history lessons at the school: Mystic (in SF) where the author actually lectures to provide background/insight.

Really? I thought it was pretty comprehensable, but I didn't pay too much attention. You should look for the several memoirs, and read all of them at the same time (including the ranger's tale). That'll give interlocking perspectives. And some old news/history magazines. Tom Smith (I think) has some histories one of my characters wants to get if he can...

Remember, though...memoirs are really ego-trips for the author as much as quality recording of events. Some more than others, of course.

Hmmm, role playing

You know, it *would* be interesting to write down a history of it all when Cantr II closes it's doors for good. Could even be released as a "campaign world" for a pen and paper type role playing game.

I am surmising, of course, that Cantr III would start fresh, clean slate.

I would say the legacy ofmy late charry Zeddicus Zol' Zorander aka Zedd to his friends was a good leader and worthy of that much recognition.

Born in the unrelenting deserts of Blojt he got himself banned from Stone Knight territory in Mirovash and found his way to Puk where he joined up with Stephen Hembrook (leader of the Smoke Jaguars and someone to add to the tyrrants list i guess as the veiws of others see him that way.)and became his friend and follower. Luckily to building a lock on his store he was able to get away and live through the "liberation" of Puk by Pok. He then shared his veiws and was able to gain the towns(and Pok) trust and became the cheif of the new Puk Council and leader of the Republic of Puk. Although all the while he waited secretly for Stephen to return and then plan his revenge against the Stone Knights for their treatment to him and Pok. Zedd had things in motion for several techinological advancments for Puk. Including a coin press that was built and in operation of producing their first coins. But his untimely death has now thwarted those plans and thus I have no idea whats going on now in Puk or my coin press.

That's exactly what I've done. In fact, one of my characters compiled an envelope "Regional Essentials" with these insights into history, including but not limited to the Glen Morangie series, Gregor's Memoires, the Ranger's Tale (by John Locke), a Tale of the Road (by Collin Munk), all 7 Informant Magazines (it's interesting on how Tom Smith's opinions shifts...from his beginning Krif-bias to...a noticable attempt to be objective) and his further publishings, not even mentioning the MidNorth Regional Union notes...etc.

Your not helping at all!

Besides, I have one character at a time, and I doubt I'll ever get to know the history in it's entirety.

I at least want the highlights.

I really don't have much time for this game, so my one, rather mundane character, is all I can use to learn. That and this forum.

Your talking about things that make no sense to me. I don't know any of these groups, gangs, places, people, or meals.

Hence the reason there is a phrase in the first post asking for backround on what people are talking about, before they start going on about it.

Furthermore, I'm glad you guys are having a grand old time with your talking about envolopes and such, but your really not staying on topic.

Perhaps you could tell me some of that history? Just a thought.
