Hermits

Postby Bowser » Tue Mar 01, 2005 4:33 am

I play two characters that live in empty regions with few resources. They live alone and only have contact when they must go to town for supplies or when someone stumbles by. Anyone else play this lonely life?

One lives in the desert and another in the swamp.

I have a character that started out in that situation, but wandered towards civilization. Now that he has started to meet people, he is considering going back to the peacefulness of hermitism. Haven't made the move yet, though.

I have a guy who lives in the mountains, but he'd rather be around people.

I even have a character that has gotten bewildered and is afraid of and agressive towards humans.

Well (more than one, but this one in particular) one of my characters spent quite a few years in the Naron/Knatr/Kiii Desert and Knatr Mountains into the Knatr/Knatr North region. He got screwed over by the iron>hematite change, having arrived in a town with iron, but hadn't started a project yet. He later moved back to society *worst choice ever* where he later got massacred.

Not as such.

One of my characters wanders around the deserts killing what few people he comes across and steals their possessions.

Except he died yesterday.
Problem is, most hermits don't have a lot of food on them and the constant travelling is tiring.

So one lucky person is going to stumble across a dead body with a LOT of items on him.

Last time I checked you rested while traveling...has this been changed?

I have a character that lives in the mountains and has turned one of the abandoned buildings into a free resource centre... She asks everyone passing through to drop any surplus items in the building... you'd be suprised what people will leave... :P

One of my characters started life in the industrial / production quarters of one of the major cities, over time he gathered as much as he could and slipped out un-noticed, he's spent the last 7 or 8 years in a fairly remote location building his home where he intends on living for the rest of his days, he runs into people every now and then and helps them less fortunate.

I can't give much more detail than that else people will put 2 + 2 together. Even though people aren't supposed to use OOC knowledge ;)

I've got a few characters who are roamers more than hermits, although many of them have finally been starting to settle down a bit as they find slightly more secluded areas to stick to.

I used to have a lot of roamers too, but now all of mine have found some sort of (temporary or permanent home) to stay at. Some have even found it a profession (especially the seafaring ones).

Hmm, oh, JoeF, I don't think I've ever backstabbed a town solely for its wealth. I did dessert a town once, and it took a lot of future accomplishments and achievements to make me stop regretting it. Greed just isn't the aspiration that satisfies me.

I have one character who may end up being a hermit because he choose to settle in one particular town which didn't have lots of people. He was desperate to find a home after being kidnapped (*shakes a fist at H.B. and curses her*) and just wanted to be accepted by the people who were already there.

Unfortunately, being brand new to the game, I didn't take into account that there were hardly any resources there. So he goes off traveling to help his new homeland prosper only to return to find that only one person was still there and that there's nothing to eat but potatoes. Others have arrived in the town, but they aren't speaking to my character much. After all, there is no real reason to stay in this little beachside paradise.

Funny, he might become a King after all simply by no one staying in this one place except him. <this comment is directed to H.B. who encouraged him to take over said small town and enslave the populace...all five of them!>

I have a character who spends all her time in the desert collecting sand to improve the roads in the mountains. She has stumbled across several males who all seem to immediatly attract to her. It must be her generosity of fixing up the roads for no apparent profit.

:D I think I know who you play.

And it was the fact that you're the only woman he'd ever seen.

I had a religious character who ran and hid for a while. It was one of my first characters. I knew nothing about the game (I only make one guy at a time, and so I learn slowly) and he had gotten confused and thought these people wanted to enslave him because they suggested he work on some "Carrot Projects" (which I thought meant some sort of plantation)

And so I stole bunch of stuff and ran off, hid in the wilderness for a bit, writting critical literature about them, religious scriptures, and god awful showtunes.

They caught up with him eventually and took him out, but they must have had a laugh when they found my notes.
