"I know it's just weird. I mean why do they spend their time going through such things that are so old."
Like Vogue said, better to bring up an old one when you know there is something about it other than creating a new one. And some people like to go back and read what was going on when they werent here O_o they later have an idea or question and come back to the old topic they looked through. O-o make any sense now? Not really all that weird.

[Yes. These kinds of bulletin boards always strugle with the problem of too many short-living topics, which is bad for communication. That's why I always try to find an appropriate topic and not open a new one, when possible. I have searched a certain issue, and this topic is about this certain issue.]
And I think transportation- and communication-restrictions are an important backbone of the Cantr world, and it would be a pity, it would be a great loss if we lost this lively un-globalized diversity because of some power-hungry technocrats.
People in Cantr live like animals in much cases concerning technology as well as ethics. I hope it'll keep to present a thrilling challenge to improve the level of civilization in a humane way for a long-long time coming. But it's not cars and wireless telephone that is needed for that, but morally responsible locally organized social structures.
It seems to me that people tend to think way too big. Most of those would-be empires are corrupt and uneffective, becouse they just try to reach further than their human and social recources allow. The basic level of organization is missing: there is no real tribal responsibility or family.
IRL even the most sophisticated and complex social complexes couldn't function properly without the integrity of th smallest communities. Even in our IRL western culture, _family_ is still very important.
Yes, we IRL live in a world, where the small communities have little importance, still the society doesn't collapse. But that's the end of a 5000 year evolution.
You cannot build a house from the top to the bottom.
If a small geographical or social community can defend itself, and can prevail on its own, then that should be it's first priority.
People are too naive, that's the problem. If a well dressed 'man in his fourties' tells that he is the emperor of the seven seas, and even has a document on the constitution of the empire, people tend to believe that he is able to protect and feed them.
We tend to naively transport our faith in large-scale organized life from this IRL life into the IC world. Cantr lacks the infrastructure for such organizations, and the characters should realize that, and behave accordingly. Too much preconceptions and too little flexibility and awareness make people frustrated and agressive, which is bad for a healthy and even development.
This naivity makes it possible that some few can get hold of much human and natural resources, and terrorize the naive.
_Now_ I have gone off-topic. I haven't found any topic directly on these big social theoretical issues. This would be the main point, wouldn't it? Any tips? Are there such topics?
