Frequently on the forum, players pretend that one Cantr year is equivalent to one real-life year, and for inexplicable reasons use the term month in a Cantrian context.
Not only is this false, it's blatantly false. Production rates in Cantr make some degree of sense when viewed as 1 Cantr day equaling one RL day. An alternative interpretation would be one Cantr hour to one RL hour, depending on how rapidly you believe projects should progress. However, a Cantr year is 20 days. Yes, Cantrians have shorter life spans than humans. SHORTER. NOT the same. Cantrians aren't humans, and if people keep treating them as humans mine will gain tails.
It's very irritating and leads to pointless discussion when people use different time compression measure, such as noting that 10 years is enough time for wood to rot. Yes, it is in RL years. Yes, it probably is in Cantr years IN CANTR, where wood rots very rapidly. Very, very rapidly. Or maybe it's bowstrings that rot rapidly. Whichever.
The point is, for time compression that assumes consistency between Cantr times and RL times at some compression level, 1 RL year = 1 Cantr year makes no sense. Some clarification as to the correct compression rate would aslo be appreciated.

ok yes that one vote for Compression? is mine.
I don't know anymore. I sometimes get it mixed up now a days what world I am in. I tell my room mates when they do the grocery shopping " I need 2kilos of lettuce and about 500 grams of deli meat.
So yeah thats my Cantr addicted self talking.
Jos.. I think we need some type of couciling provided with this game. Some of us, namely me, can't get away from it.

Cantarian's are Humans.
Human's live their life shorter or longer, not just based on their chemistry (IE: DNA), but also on their way of life, health care to push off the inevitable, and most importantly ENVIRONMENT.
The Cantr world is not Earth. Although it seems to simulate climates of Earth, they aren't the same. It takes the planet 20 days to circle around the sun, which therefore means the sun and planet are close to each other, which means the planet is hotter, which means shorter life spans because Human's can't tolerate too much heat. It also means higher winds from planet rotation and accelleration, which then means shorter life spans from lack of oxygen throughout the Cantarian's lives.
Therefore, Canratians are Humans. They just live in a different environment, causing their lives to be shorter.
Of course, this isn't what you're arguing about
I agree, though, that the term "month" should not be used in game, mainly because it's not defined.

"Months" are measures of time that is and arbitrary division of a larger amount of time. A lunar cycle isn't a month, and untill Cantrians have a sky and a way to look at it, we have no information on if there's a moon to affect tides and techtonic plactes.
A cantr month is something that can be decided on in game, by the society where the term is present. It could come to pass that a "month" in Karnon is 2 days, and a "month" in Kirinn is 5 days. It's up to the society, and I don't see any reason to prohibit it's discussion in the same way babies or people thinking they're dogs are.

Reality was never my strong point.

"Month" is a division of time tied to the lunar cycle. It's been made arbitrary by political forces, but it is based on the moon. You do not have to like it, but there it is. It's OK if you think it shouldn't matter-- I don't think it should matter either, but then, I also don't think that a lot of the so-called "CR breaches" should be considered CR breaches. However, given how inanely pedantic certain people are about what is and is not acceptable knowledge, I thought it only fair to point out: a month cannot exist in Cantr if there is no moon or no way of looking at a moon.
For that matter, there is no day and night in Cantr, and therefore, presumably, no real orbit around a star. Thus, there can be no year, either.
A "week" might be arbitrary enough for your purposes, though.

This is possible, I think, but extremely unlikely. Essentially, Cantr as a world restricts humans to a minimal set of actions with impacts, only allows work to occur every hour, spawns these humans randomly in locations caused by the presence of other humans... we're putting humans in a world with completely unrelated physics? Why bother with the 'human' thing at all? They're Cantrians!
It is interesting to note that, while hours have meaning (work), I think 4-hour periods have meaning (recovery) and years have meaning (character aging), days do not seem to have a fundamental meaning. I guess the labeling of time, which is available to the Cantrians (nothing wrong with this, it's just interesting to point out), days have meaning, because a day is provided. But months and minutes, those don't mean anything at all in a Cantr context. If someone defines month there's no reason not to play along, and if your characters decides to define month, that's fine (although it'd be cooler to invent a word), but months don't have ANY inherent meaning in Cantr.
