Bad RP

602-2: a woman in her twenties says: "602-2: Project Manufacturing an iron shield has been finished."
I hate when people use these things to prove stuff. I also hate when people say they want to see a turn report to see whether someone is cheating or to prove something else that happened.
I really think the copy and paste method is bad role-playing and there are better ways to go about this situation. I have said in the past that I would ignore these comments but I haven't done that yet just so not to create a ruckus that I know will turn into an ooc argument.
I know I said something about this long ago on the Yahoo! Board but I will say it again. I really think the copy and paste method or using old turn reports to prove something is bad role-playing if it can be considered role-playing in the first place. I think there are better ways to role-play such a situation, like say something to the effect that "I just finished that iron shield, so it is mine." Some other character might not agree or might believe that something else should be done with the shield etc... So role-play it out.
One time one of my characters saw someone do this and said something to the effect that it wasn't theirs. All the other character kept spitting out was 306-4: a woman in her twenties says: "305-3: Project Farming Rice blah-blah - ending up on the ground" and thought that was all she had to do automatically gain ownership of the rice. I argued with her, both IC and OOC, and noticed a lot of players except that as the proper way of claiming something. Finally, I let that conversation die out but a week later posted something like this on the board.
I just like to let people know that from now on
NONE OF MY CHARACTERS will except this as the proper or acceptable form to claim something nor will I except anything from a turn report.
Just wanted to let you all know that.

I'll have to admit I just did something similar today. Normally I do role play that kind of thing but I was in a hurry. There was a live conversation going on with another character and I just don't give those up because of the rarity.
I think it gets the point across and if you said something like "Been in the sun too long? Can you repeat", I'd role play it later.

I don't do it myself, but it is an act sprung from the fact that there is allready little realism in people not seeing who finishes the projects.
But it would be better if they put it OOC, just to make shure that it is instead of the characters witnessing that the project is finished.

One thing I don't do is fake them because they are no proof of anything. Some of my prior posts contain these fakes and samples of things that can't happen now or never will.
601-8: You see a man in his twenties use some titanium on Manufacturing rocket -Gemini 12-.

I would consider fakes, such as
602-2: a woman in her twenties says: "602-2: Project Manufacturing an iron shield has been finished.", as a capital rule offence since it isn't true and some people think that it is an easy way to get something without being considered theft because I think to many people accept this as a proper way to claim something when it is really all to easy to see a shield on the ground and then the person makes a fake and then everyone accepts it hers without question. I'm not saying that the person I am using above did that but that is a likely scenario.
I know what you are talking about when you say fakes though. Back when HTML could be used in speech, people used a certain code to get rid of the 602-2: John says: "601-8: You see a man in his twenties use some titanium on Manufacturing rocket -Gemini 12-." and instead put it on the events page as 601-8: You see a man in his twenties use some titanium on Manufacturing rocket -Gemini 12-. In fact, one of my characters was almost killed for something that he didn't do because someone used this code, a cheater, to make it look like my character was attacking people and picking things. That is one reason why HTML was taken out of speech because people used certain codes to cheat.

a line break, or paragraph tab would be what they likely used to get it on a new line.
I prefer written accounts of the past to turn report style events, but I think copying and pasting off the events list if you can go back that far represents your recent memory where you can still remember everything clearly.
But yes, an in game way of being able to see who finishes what project would be helpful, but if you saw ever project finished think of how much space it would takeup.

This isn't the same kind of bad rp, but I thought I would say something. One of my chars was really busy, and ended coming off very rudely. He yelled at some people, and got them pretty mad. When he left the town, a man came after someone else who was leaving the town, who had stolen some stuff. While he was there, he hit me with a pick axe. I mean, come on, would you hack someone with a pickaxe for being rude?! Maybe hit them, but seriously attack them? Come on people think!

You know....I really wish we could find someway to avoid these messages too. It just stood out to me again very recently how irritating all of the cut and pasting is. I for one never do the paste the message tactic when finishing old projects -- and I am one of those players that almost never starts a new project when there is one available in the activities list already.
Could some of you people just go with a simple "That was from a old project." It takes less energy than click, drag, ctrl-c, click, ctrl-v anyway and isn't any less disputable IC.
The same goes for reports in notes. Yes, in the heat of battle I can see it is the only way sometimes...but it doesn't necessarily take that much time to reedit does it? delete delete delete...you'll feel like StrongBad but you will survive and the game will look a whole lot better.

I noticed someone doing that the othe rday and it really annoyed me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. ACtually I thought that person was a newbie and would be told something like it's OOC, but everyone seemed to ignore it. I don't really mind it in a note but nobody should actually talk like that!
If I see someone do it again I think I'll just act like I think they're a little strange or something. In real life if I went around annoucning everything I did like, "You see Marian put a can of tuna in a grocery cart," people would give me weird looks and back away slowly.

I recently had an episode in the town I've been taking care of where two men came in from the desert claiming that the other attacked him. One had a nifty little day by day report of the events, pasted directly from his events page. That annoyed me. I treated it like I would any other evidence, though, and ended up making a neutral judgment.
It was still annoying, though.

You think so? If I don't finish raking the leaves, and my wife ends up finishing it up, she would say "October 24, 2005: Project Raking leaves has been finished successfully.".

I got up this morning and my wife suggested we make pancakes. I groggily answered "Let me fix my cooking stone ... "
Her sides still hurt from laughing.
Wether or not it's bad rp, it's a pet peeve that had a two year old thread necroed to discuss. No on defends the issue, most everyone agrees it's bad form, but there's no reason to add it to the capital rule.

if you think about it, copying and pasting all the events then giving it to someone as evidence isn't ver y good evidence. Its way to easy to do the same, then insert your own little version of the story.
