Cantr Staff

First off, I would like to wish all the Cantr players and staff a merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy the holiday.
Secondly, I would like to thank Cantr for a great year (as I managed to pass A-levels and get into university despite playing...). :)

But the main point of this thread is a more general question. I am well aware that Cantr is staffed by volunteers and I would like to get involved helping the game that I play so much. The question: which department needs the most help? I don't want to end up applying to the one department that doesn't need any help...

It doesn't make a difference to me which it is. If it requires programming experience then, well, I probably have more spare time than most Cantr players... and I will make that effort to learn PHP (God help me).

Anyway, I think I've said everything. Have a happy holiday everyone! :P

For programming you should apply when you already know how to program - it might be in another language, but you should have programming experience. Otherwise the application is not accepted.

Marketing definitely needs some new and especially active members. There are a few new ones and it is better than it used to be, but it's still not as active a department as it should be.

The PD can always use good new staff members. It's already a bit department, but one with a lot of work to do.

The RD I think has a waiting list of applications already :) ...

The CD is still looking for new staff as well.

Hope I didn't forget one :) ...

You forgot the Languages Department :-P
Of course the Languages Department is only interesting for those who are fluent in a foreign language.

Communications could do with more active moderators. Or, and there's always the editorial team who might need a hand.

Oh, and everybody. GET THYSELVES BACK ON IRC! It's not dead!

I applied once, and got a reply apolgising for taking so long to get back to me and asking if I was still interested. I replied within the hour saying I most certainly was still interested. Never did gat a response to that.

If they really want more staff, they'd ask for it. Seems to me they're not interested.

I hope Jos or somebody reads this... they have been asking for help, but when you don't answer replies, well it will be hard to get new staff.

It's not the individual departments that deal with applications, it's the central staff and the GAC... I think.

Either way, it ain't my job!

Sorry about those cases. Staff applications is always a bit difficult - we take some time to have several people give their opinions on an applicant and sometimes we talk to the applicant a bit more etc. to be sure that the person is suitable and reliable. This means that applications take some time and that there are always a few pending. Sometimes a pending application sinks so far down a forum that we accidentally forget about it - this is not because it is ignored, but because some of us commented but are waiting for others to comment and those just don't happen to be online often ... so, sometimes they're forgotten even if they're important.

Also, even though some cases are very important and urgent, there are usually really loads of very important and urgent issues for active staff members, hence the importancy doesn't mean it's also always first priority :) ...

Anyway, all lousy excuses, of course, but don't take it personally if no reply arrives - just keep bugging personnel@cantr.net if you don't get replies ;) ...
