Deterioration too fast

I noticed that one of my characters crossbow and longbow are simply "new"...not brand new.

I don't know how many stages there are, but considering he hasn't used them I find it worrying that they are starting to deteriorate allready...so it is better to complain now then wait until they fall apart.

I have a char who is experimenting with all different types of simple weapons. She made a primitive bow maybe two years ago, shot it maybe twice, and it's now listed as 'used,' not 'new,' or 'brand new.' This only seems to affect bows, though. Perhaps I shouldn't be talking about this in the forum, as it should be found out in-game, but my all my char's shields are still 'brand new'. Hmm.

I remember reading in the forum somewhere that deterioration is realistic, so maybe by not using them they'll deteriorate faster than using them often. Also, I'm thinking that bows will be a problem maybe because of the string? Because metals or wood will stand up to the elements longer than a piece of cotton string.

I really hope things doesn't deteriorate faster when not using them...that doesn't seem very realistic. And even if it should be it would be a bad function, since people would use their weapons simply to keep them in shape...and that will be horrible for game stability purposes.

It'll be a Cantr decade before the bow simply falls apart but it is correct that using a bow more often will make it deteriorate faster. You also must remember that about a year and a half has passed in Cantr since deterioration was added to weapons. That is quite a long time to have some of the things you have to still be looking brand new or even new.

Bows will be the first thing to begin going as correctly stated by Jack that things like bowstring won't last that long as well as the strain put in the limbs of a bow is great. 10 years is a long time for a bow to last. Perhaps too long in my opinion.

I'm not too concerned, provided a repair function is implemented in good time. Bows would need their bowstrings replaced, surely? Which would create a need for spare bowstrings in one's inventory and boost the textile industry. As for primitive bows, they always were pathetic - a bone knife is a much better deal and doesn't seem to be classed as a weapon.

I am a little concerned about certain imbalances. My dungfork appears to be a weapon, but not my shovel. I'm sorry, but my dungfork is worth far more to me as a tool than it is for hitting sheep. Worst of all a stone pot is a "weapon" and one now sees brand new stone pots. I didn't know domestic violence had been introduced to the game.

everything is supposed to break down. They just haven't finished extending degredation stats to some items. So, stone pots aren't weapons (that I'm aware), but they do degrade.

All your characters must be "townies". No strong, silent hunting types? Stone pots are weapons and you can hurt animals with them--though it looks damn silly to see it done. Thus, so far as I can tell, only such "weapons" are being rated for degradation as of now.

Actually no. What has been done so far is what I did for weapons and what TJ did for what tools he got too? I haven't had time to do anything more and TJ probably the same and I'm not sure where the other Resource Department members are. coughAnthonycough. Oh, excuse me.

I hope there is a big difference in deterioration for using weapons/tools often compared to rarely or not at all. I don't like the idea of a sabre simpy falling apart if kept in storage...

A decade for a moderately used bow sounds...well, at least not too fast, but I hope that you won't have to use a large array of advanced tools for repairing a crossbow if the realism behind it is that the string or whatever it might be called wears out.

At least I feel a bit more safe now

I'm probably supposed to find this in game, but will weapons do less damage as they are worn down?

That is a good question. I hope not because with the tiredness thing and you having to gain skill with weapons you will never be able to get a hit on anything...

You see a man in his thirties say: "Wow my tiredness is finally almost gone! I feel refreshed. *smiles* I haven't hunted in a while, I think I should give it a try."

You see a man in his thirties hurt a cow with a worn cross bow.

You see a man in his thirties say: "Damn it! (ooc: That only did 2 percent)"

I believe Jos said that weapons and tools will be fully functional until they completely break.

Realistically, a Saber left in a box for decades isn't going to come out looking good at all. Of course in real life, it doesn't take working day and night for 3 months to make a bow, not including how long it takes to make the string. Recurve bows, one of the simpler ones, does, ant that doesn't even include the coule of months it would take to gather the wood for a bow.

I don't mind things being implemented, as long as they're all to scale. If someone did dedicate 3 months of time to making a bow, that bow would not break for years and years. The bow string sees stress, true, but only when it's used, and the bow is STRUNG. When people aren't using nows in real life, they take the string off to save it and to now put stress on the bow itself. If a bow isn't being used, it should be assumed to be unstrung, and see little or no degredation.

The most frightening thing I've seen is a brand new bone knife. Bones are usually assumed to be fragile, and so they will break. And then people will need more small bones. More hunting small critters. More repeats of the tradgedy of Reniov Forest East, where two fools nearly got themselves and their passenger killed for extincting all the bunnies there. Lisa was unamused.

I would suggest a little tweaking in the reproduction rate of creatures with small bones, to help offset this increase in hunting.

I've been suggesting this for a very long time now, but nobody seems to pay any attention. There are bone-and-stone hunting communities who used to take down a lion every three days or so, and yet seem incapable of killing one at all now. But the smaller animals simply do not breed.

'Scuse me, but I'm working on Resource Department things, not degrediation (I spelt that wrong, didn't I?) seeing as how buildings and vehicles can't degrade yet. I'm working on the vehicles into parts program. Balancing numbers and the like.

Not only that, but I'm working on New Lands things at the same time. I'm a busy person, you know - I never quit working, Richard, never. And if I do, I find something to occupy myself with. So, what are YOU doing? :P
