One Final Post

Postby sammigurl61190 » Tue Nov 30, 2004 12:27 am

Okay, I'm writing one last post on this forum, then I'm done. This post is to say goodbye to all my friends here that I have grown to know and love. Cantr, over the past year, has been a blast. I can't tell you all the laughs I've gotten over this game, and this forum, and everything, but I can't do this anymore.

First, to address the players. I have made lifelong friends because of this game, and I really thank Jos and the other administrators for that. Chris (also known as new.vogue.nightmare) is my best friend in the world, and we met because of Cantr. Jochem, Heather, Dan, Jake, other Dan, David, Jos, Jon (even though we have had our disagreements), Pixie, Apache, Anthony, Rand, BERG, Sparkle, Netty, Missy, Nathan, Colonel, and I know tons of other people--I'll miss you all. Maybe, one day, I will return. Until that day happens though, keep in touch with me on any of my messengers. You all have been a joy to role play with.

Why am I leaving? That is a good question. For starters, Cantr does not have the same ambiance that it once did. When I joined Cantr in October of 2003, it was a group of about 500 skilled role players, playing a fairly simple game and having fun. Now, there are so many players--and of course, don't take this offensively--who aren't...hmm...how do I say this...they just aren't as dedicated as a lot of us were way back when. Making this post, I looked at the list of people who are on the forums. 13 pages of members, and I know that there are a lot more players than there are forum members. There are so many bullshit characters walking around Cantr these days, and it makes me sad.

Reason number two: Cantr has become way over-complicated. These new changes, they are absurd. You don't need 5 different health status'. You shouldn't have to gather and make 10 different things just to properly arm yourself. Of course, this is just my opinion, and I'm sure there are lots of people out there who think the changes are a positive step for Cantr, and they are entitled to their opinions. I personally just think that these changes has taken a fun, fairly simple game to something way too complicated. If I wanted to play a complicated game, I could play EverQuest, or a ton of other games. That was one of the things I liked about Cantr--that you could play it without a ton of effort. On a bad day, you could just log in and role play with the other characters, just for the sake of role playing. That's not so anymore.

I'm sure you are sick of reading this, and frankly, I'm sick of typing this. My hands hurt--but it needs to be done.

Of course, as you all know, my characters will all die. A few I will be sad to see go. But most I will be relieved to leave behind. I'll post my public characters here, so you all will know in case you don't know already who they are.

    Samantha Davis, of Quillanoi
Chanel Davis, of Drojf Hills (north) and Krif
Helen Kingston, of Lake Village but is currently in Quillanoi Forest
    Rachel Williams, of Krif
    Fiona Washington, of Naron
    Georgia Cunningham Deamano, of Olipifirovash
Linda Dee, of Pok and Blojt Forest (east) but is currently in Olipifirovash Forest
Brenda Hatchet, of Vraryllnuets Hills (south)
    Zayna Dellums Riffish, of Tircqi
Vashti Anette Shanasa Dalossian, of Flonder
    Paris, of Krif
Kali Leonra, of Kirinn, Karnon, and Kirinn Norfields
Sal, of Blaman and Blaman Mountains (east)
Cynthia Olivia Richmond, of Olipifirovash (west)

I'm sorry for all those affiliated with my characters, but this has to be done.

Goodbye and good luck to all.

Not really, but I will miss 7 of them greatly, since you seem to have made up your mind...Well, I can't stop you, so i say, bye :( .

Oh, and the changes aren't that bad...specially with nice characters(like yours) helping out to survive...

I will miss Brenda most of all. She was a unique character, very gutsy. She was second only to Fiona, who was hoped to lead Naron one day, if she had only kept the heart. Rachel......well, one of my chars was just beginning to hate her, so I will miss her very much, too. I was looking forward to more fights. :P Who else.......Kali....a very old and good friend of one of mine. As was Chanel. She will be sadly missed.

Geez, Sammi. Lots of your characters were important to many of mine. This is going to create a a few large holes to fill. I'll miss you. Take care of yourself.

I'm flattered you'd miss me, despite the heated conflict in err...ideas.

:P And so the same to you, godspeed and farewell ;).

Keep in touch :)

Horray! She's finally going! Now I never have to see her again!

Oh wait. Damnit. She has my messenger names. AWWWWW.

(Kidding, doll.)

You suck, by the way :) - I won't miss any of your characters, but it's YOU that I'll miss. You shouldn't go, but I can't stop you - I already tried.

Farewell. Live Long, and Don't Prosper, allow ME to Prosper.

Feels good to get a mention from a player I respected a lot. It is a shame that Sammi is leaving, but I fully understand. I, myself feel exactly the same way. That is why I will be trimming down my character list. I am not quitting altogether, yet. I am unloading my most time consuming ones.

This game used to be perfect, but like everything else, human nature for improvement and progress takes it's toll on simple pleasures.

Well, let's see.

Samantha Davis - well, Dartel will mourn, but less than he would have done. He's... kinda gone off her recently, what with all the silence and that =P

Helen Kingston will cause me problems. Lots of problems.

And Hatchet? Well, now, who will Yellan and Maruja have to hate now? Grr!

Many people like the new changes. It's those who don;t who stand out because they are vocal about it. However, my opinion is that the nearer Cantr gets to reality, in most ways, the better. The one thing it desperately needs though, alongside all the modular manufacturing methods, is ITEM DETERIORATION to balance it out.

I agree about the quality of a lot of the RP around, though. We need to encourage better roleplaying! Trouble is, if all the dedicated roleplayers run off, who'll encourage those that remain?

We'll miss you, Samantha. But you know you'll be back in the end!

By making it so that trying to play the game takes more and more time and energy, the RP aspect gets pushed aside. I haven't the time to re-learn the game, so I will look for something simple like Cantr used to be. It is no longer a game for a casual player.
