UWPhilosopher wrote:This game is better than any other MMORPG in many ways. I wonder if I can count them.
1. I can be any kind of person I want. I can be a peasant or a leader. I can be a soldier or a craftsman. I can be a revolutionary or a tyrant. I can be shy or outgoing. I can be a jerk or nice. I can be predictable or unpredictable.
2. The economy works how I choose to particpate in it. It can represent a communist, socialist or capitalist system.
3. Leaders can be assassinated or overthrown. Police can be escaped from. Authority is not absolute if I am good enough to get around it or away from it.
4. I am not required to do anything I don't want to do. I don't have to do specific missions to get certain skills to level up. I don't have to fight monsters, collect weird artifacts, run errands or conform to some norm. My occupation is my choice whether it be a politician, craftsman, soldier, farmer, etc. and it can change at any time.
5. I can kill to a reasonable extent without motive anywhere on the map. No one has so much freedom in the game so as to become a Nazi-esque regime, but the ability to create a little terror is not unreasonably outside of my abilities.
6. Property is controlled only insofar as the one who "owns" it can forcefully make sure it stays theirs. Nearly anything can change ownership through one means or another.
That's about all I can think of for now. Please tell me why you think my suggestions change any of these dynamics. I am only suggesting superficial changes. I wouldn't want anything to change about what makes this game great. If you know any other online games that allow me to do all of those six listed things that has better graphics than Cantr please let me know.
Here are my thoughts on what you listed, this is just my opinion so, ya. Meaning what things I agree with you.
1. Yes you can be pretty much anyone you want, as the days go on it gets harder to become a leader, you need to be elected or go find new land.
2. Laws can be that way yes. If I got what you were saying correctly.
3. Leaders can be assassinated or overthrown. Guards can be escaped from. Authority is not absolute if I am good enough to get around it or away from it. But that is hard

. Takes a lot for each of those, and depends what town.
4. I am not required to do anything I don't want to do, that is true. I don't have to do specific missions to get certain skills to level up, yes but some skills you need to train in to get better at. I don't have to fight monsters (no but animals can hurt you), collect weird artifacts, run errands or conform to some norm. My occupation is my choice whether it be a politician, craftsman, soldier, farmer, etc. and it can change at any time, yes but your rank wont get that high if you keep changing.
5. I can kill to a reasonable extent without motive anywhere on the map. No one has so much freedom in the game so as to become a Nazi-esque regime, but the ability to create a little terror is not unreasonably outside of my abilities. ( Well with someone my characters being 'very strict', these days you only can hit anyone once a day, same with the animals. If you are that good at speeches and rule a certain way, you may beable to 'influence' enough people. Really depends where your location is and your 'influence', such as what you promise, what you have, and what you could give, and ensure of safety, and aslo that it is a worthy cause. Many newspawns and cantarians will jump at an easy chance for free stuff. )
6. Property is controlled only insofar as the one who "owns" it can forcefully make sure it stays theirs. Nearly anything can change ownership through one means or another. ( As I say, depends on location)
That is how it is now.

The first objection is you seem to be changing the text base, which for me, at least, is essential.
If you want to interact with another char in real time, (and he wants to interact with you,) there are ig signals you can give that you are awake. If you know some chars player is off-line, on the other hand, that let's you get up to no good and is presumably a total breach of the CR, but that would be unpoliceable.

Oh, LOL, no this is not what I was talking about.
And probably you won't see what I was talking about until a long, long time. They're still working on it, I think.
I haven't made up my mind yet, but I don't I am for a graphical Cantr.
Once the graphics get into a game, all the RP gets lost.

if a roedmap version of cantr is made I think it should be cantr III so that those of us with slow computers (me) or think cantr wouldn't be as fun with grafics can stick with cantr II.

The subject is misleading. The whole thing is about a plan for the game development, not actual roads. I, too, would find it impossible if it weren't text based, but I fear that it must become far more graphical with free roaming etc.

I just want to say that if the game does go graphical than a lot of people will not play any more. I play on a PSP and cannot simply upgrade my web browser or download any kind of client i will be very disapointed if it happens. I left XBox live and all other online games and online friends to play this game. Alot of people are poor and cannot afford a 2000$ computer just so they can get a virus and have a 2000$ paper wieght.

Count me as one of those. But I'm sure that's not going to happen. This free-roaming is a concern though, but I'll wait to find out more.

You can get a good computer...or just go to the library or school.

and actually, this is the kind of update that Cantr needs to get more people to play. As of now there's less than 2000 people (right?), instead of say, a few hundred thousand.
In my opinion, one of the worse things that could happen to Cantr is a reset...

I whole-heartedly agree with Hermit. I like the fact that this game isn't like runescape, sooo many things wrong with that game, and that it's just a small user base. It's more personable, and even with a small amount of people there are still a lot of characters.

Cantr would never get that many players, without becoming a different game. (Funny by how "different game" I mean it would actualy become a clone of every other game out there")
Cantr's great the way it is... Well, mostly.

A 2000$ computer? Heck, my mum's PC only cost her £30. It's crap, but that's not due to viruses. Macs are a good bet if you don't want viruses, but I would suggest getting Linux. That's probably your best bet, and it's completely free.
