Spawning Locations

OK, so this has likely come up before, but I'm sure you guys will appreciate the opportunity to vent as much as me

Now I don't have time for 15 characters, but I would like the opportunity to play a primitive character on one of the new islands as a change. I can't keep starting new characters till I get lucky because I can't play them all so they'd just be suicidal. I'm betting a lot of people have done this, though..

So my options appear to be: Don't try, sail there (No IC reason to do that though) or play in an obscure language ( a bit of a problem as the only obscure language I speak is Geordie ;) )

Am I alone in wanting to request starting locations - even just at the main island/non-main island level? Maybe only after you've played for a certain amount of time? That way newbies can always be put somewhere with people to help them out, which is very important I think.

Well, there is no such thing as a main island that I can see...

I wanted a character on the K-island since I started hearing about it on the forum. Dodn't get one for a very long time, though. But that's just the way it's designed...I wouldn't want to mess up the population-growth distribution.

I got no cahracters on the "new" islands, but I have several going there for different reasons.
Also Geordie is not a strange language, it the dialect we speak in Newcastle. Well most of you people do, I however don't.

I have tried in vain to get people in certain areas...but no luck. It think it is good that spawning is random though.

I'm glad spawning is random...

It makes people have to do something with the less desirable places...
I like not knowing where I'll be...

(but then again, none of my characters have been spawned in the deserted places)

Anyway, isn't using OOC info to choose where to spawn a CR breach? :P :)

Well, that shows my ignorence... all 6 of my characters are on the same island (and all have found the same maps, I think!) Its starting to get quite crowded, they are all running into people who know the other characters. Its very hard to avoid the CR breach - do I want my character to talk to this (rather obvious) person because they are just fun IC or because I know a lot about them OOC? Its actually impossible to distinguish!

But it does sound like I'm a little unlucky in that sense. And of course its true that noone would ever spawn out of choice in the nasty places.

Its just sooo frustrating to have all this world out there and not be able to see it! Makes a good point for an OOC history, I think. But thats another thread...

Using OOC info to choose spawn location might be a breach, but desiring an EVEN distribution instead of a RANDOM distribution of spawning isn't... Hmm, maybe a suggestion...

I've had 6 spawns on a single continent...though it's the ancient and really huge one. But with 9 total spawns that gives me a few elsewhere. My third and fourth spawned on consecutive days (or maybe it was the same day...I don't remember if the current limit was in effect) in the exact same place.

I would like to have a character in the Aki area, one in the Olip area, maybe some other areas. But I definitely think that the randomness is more important than getting characters in the right places.

I'd choose to spawn in the nasty places...

i currently have.....*counting*

5 out of a total of 8 charrys all on one land mass.

even then, i think the new spawn may have come into being someplace far away on that and mass too. lol

talk about tough not to interact. 2 in krif, 1 on the roads between KDS towns and 1 in the hills. another up twords moku area......so close together and most actually know eachother, but they dont interact much.

it's not random, it's wieghted in favour of a more realistic growth model, using the hypothesis population grows exponentially, so larger places have a higher chance of spawns

Learn Esperanto! You will be fluent in no time and then you can play Cantr in Esperanto. The Esperanto region is rather new, so there are lots of places that need to be developed there.

Currently having one char fighting for survival in the Esperanto area. He won't make it :(, but he's not giving up.

Yes, and that is great, but it is still quite random :)

growth and size of populations is great... but there are places now that are practically deserted.... take the continent with all the Aki names.... animals killed off everyone and the chances of you spawning there are close to none.
