New Resources

Well I've noticed some new resources popping up in places. Clay and dasies for instance. My characters are eyeballing them at the moment.
As an OOC question though - are there uses for such things yet?

And on the subject of clay - the ability to make clay bowls would be nice. An alternative to wooden bowls (since one can't make a wooden bowl until the carving knife bug is fixed, no CK no mallet = no bowl).
Clay bowls
200g clay
30g wood
Oven
One can hand shape the clay and put it into the oven to fire it to hardness.

Theres a lot of resources with no current use, so its hard to say. BTW... all questions here should be OOC ones... lol

funny, I thought a carving knife was for carving meat, not wood. Normally a carving knife is specifically for cutting meat off the bone. I would have thought that a normal knife could be used for carving.

That got me to think of wax.
Where's there wax there's bees.
Bees that mutiply like the racoons use to but only cause 1 pt of damage. Bees should be wherever there are flowers.
Since it be hard to have hives and such until then bees could produce small amounts of wax and honey when killed. Any punch should kill a bee.
Honey to act just as sugar.
Wax for many things but, most imortantly, surfboards. A "boat" smaller than a rowboat that you can't carry much on your person. Shouldn't be able to put a lock on it either.

there's more
what does one do with roses, for example?
there's scads of new healing foods on the new island, as well
and what,exactly, does sugar do?
IC of course, i know what it does IRL...it gives me cavities!

Which reminds me. Picking cotton should reduce health. Inside the cotton flower there are four long thorns. The thorns are right in the middle of the cotton. If you ever picked cotton you would know it's only a matter of time until you hurt yourself.
Cotton picking should be harmless until clothes come around for those who have had the faith to work on things in advance. After that it should cause damage. Maybe 1 point per hour of picking.

On the topic of roses - They are edible, why not make them so in the game? Rose hips are actually used in alot of things, and the petals are always nice to add to things. Hmm, let me dig up some recipies that include roses.
Tulips - I just found some of these. Guess they are good for giving to people.

Maybe bare handed rock and metal gathering should hurt a bit as well. I can't think of any of the foods that are thorny.

Rose Hip Nut Bread
100g Roses
100g Nuts
200g Wheat flour
100 g sugar
25g wood
400g Bread
___________________________
Rose Candy - for that sugar rush we all need!
300g Roses
200g Sugar
25g wood
250g Candy
A person would need to use alot of roses as they are going to shrink in the cooking!

Gathering injuries - gives us a reason to use that animal hide to make gloves for protection eh?

For stone and metal gloves would work. But for cotton anything small enough to get into the flower won't protect you from the thorns. I have no idea how they do cotton gathering with machines. The cotton gin was just to remove the seeds that are also imbedded in the cotton I think.
As for roses, what better way to prove you love than to take a little pain while gathering. Maybe that's why roses are preferred over/more expensive than daises today.
But some good work gloves would be a welcome addition.
100g of animal hide + Scissors + a day or so = rough leather gloves {gets around all the tanning etc.}
And on Scissors can they be alternativly creating a rough pair of Scissors with only a hammer and screwdriver and then use a "stone sharping wheel" to turn it into Scissors? A longer process to avoid the steel requirement of the file. Maybe a larger longer to make iron file?
Maybe there should be a larger pair of Scissors just for thin leather work instead of normal Scissors for cloth.
