All(maybe only 3) of the attacks are made with crossbows, I think its been 4 days ago now. 5 of my chars live in places with pirates/murderer/thief attacking.
Have you guys noticed that? its weird
-Kwor
(not fourdays ago yet so I won't mention one, all I could say was that it was pretty devestating to the town)
-Longinazy forest (but I caught the person before anything big happened)
and some place i forgot

The attack in Kwor was particularly viscious...

you call that viscious? Well, one of my char were in this town and now only 5 people survived, besides my char and some leader who has plan to fend off pirates leading what was left of our military, everyone was below half strength
Although my char near kwor was actually in Kwor, he was in the kwor fields, looking at the refugees.
For once Kwor fields is actually better off than Kwor, yay!
How many people survived the kwor attack?

There may be some smart piracy coming soon...less random murder enhanced by boat, more water-assisted highway robbery.
But naturally with all the discussion of piracy and the pioneer pirates, there's a lot of interest spreading in getting a boat, and I doubt that it's for the travel speed. I've seen several newspawns planning to get into 'shipping' from day one. How likely is it that they actually mean to use the ships for good?

I think these attacks are good because now Cantr societies will have to build navies to protect their ports and homes from pirate attacks. This could lead to shipping and exploration of the sea which would begin an era in Cantr that we have not yet seen.

But navies can't protect ports, because you can't dock with a moving ship. Once that can happen navies will definitely be in...also, ships will need to carry marines, since any vessel at sea would be at risk from pirates.
In the mean time, the only way to protect a port is to have highly alert guards who can actually hit the pirate before the pirate wakes up. There aren't many guards that quick.
But even if it's unfairly hard to defend against, making the outdoors dangerous is a good encouragement to societal advancement.

City walls...
Still not sure how they would be implemented... But they were an essential part of larger towns and cities for centuries... Bands of robbers and pirates in Cantr just go to show why...

I think this would be a great idea.

I put it as a suggestion some time ago...
There was a lot of discussion about how it would work, and how difficult it would be to add... But nothing came out of it...

Maybe because you can already build a walled city as is? Just put it in a building. I've been planning one out for a while, but none of my characters have the means or inclination to build one, partly because things are too safe.

I think the main thing people want to feel safe would be a way to continue to gather food while inside a perimiter. But, that wasn't possible in real life, so why should it be possible in Cantr?
Isn't there some structure that can be built that let's people who dock land there, and isn't it lockable? That sounds like a solution to piracy, if I remeber it right. Of course, I've never had a key, much less built whatever this is I'm talking about, so I could be wrong.

Can coaster harbours be locked?
But then again, locking a dock might discourage traders...

They call it passport control now don't they?
The whole "we aren't going to let you through until we are sure we want to" thing.
Could do the same for Cantr, immigration control etc. Just takes a while, but that's like anything in RL

Yeah, but, unless you look really dodgy, or look like you're from the middle east and are trying to get into the US... Passport control wouldn't really take more than an hour - that's if there's big queues...
But this is Cantr... Would you wait 3 days to be let back into your home?...

The worst things about Pirate attacks are CR Breaches. The people that are coming to the town you just want to scream noooo don't go and the people who is supposed to help that doesn't know about the attacks you just want to scream Hurry the hell up!! It's even worst when you have chars. all around who can help you. Well, it's ok I guess. Rules are always there for good.
The attacks that happened in another town other then Kwor (thinks for a minute.......ok it has been 4 days). The attacks in Seatown happened so sudden. The whole town is wiped out. There are a few people left hiding. Traveling is so slow. I don't understand. I thought the Stonecutters were good people. But then again the pirates could be on a stolen boat. N-E ways alot of important people died.
I like the pirate attacks cause 1. It's a great challenge to survive through one with just a wooden shield when 2 pirates are hitting you back to back everyday until you can't fight any more. 2. It makes the game exciting.
So I say bring it on Pirates and see who will have the last laugh.
