Do animals really breed?

I notice just about every place I go to has laws about not hunting animals when there's less that four or five or whatever? Is there an actual reason for this? Do they spawn faster when there's more of them?

Pretty sure growth is an increasing function of population (and 0 at pop=0) function of population, yes. They certainly stop appearing if you kill all of them.

There's a place that buffalo number in the hundreds, and they multiply faster than we can kill them

Not anymore, if you're talking about K-Island.

Yeah. Karnon Fields was cleared out just a little while ago. Made sure to comment on it, too. Surprised you haven't noticed since you have a char there.

Karnon had over 200 buffaloes, nearly 300 I think, about 5 days ago. guess the K Island still has a problem

Guess I didn't clarify this the first time I posted....
THEY FIXED IT. THE BUFFALO HAVE RETURNED TO NORMAL NUMBERS.
If you don't believe, see for yourself.

Animals CANNOT breed, at least not as we know it. There's no way to see boy and girl animals, pregnant animals, young animals, old animals. They're all just targets.
As near as I can figure, Cantrians spawn, but animals reproduce by whole division of a creature, as long as at least 2 creatures are present, and I'm not so sure on the last part.

Isn't "whole division of a creature" just spawning? It would make sense to only have 1 Cantrian reproduction method. It follows roughly similar rules to people reproduction - only happens when others are around, more people -> more new spawns, spawns are born adult, etc...
I always thought of them as the same process, anyway.

Yep, as far as my characters are concerned animals and people just appear and spawn. although one goes into more detail because of a note he found at spawn

People spawn if two or more people have been in an area in the last twelve hours.
You say creatures require two of that creature to "reproduce".
Evidence suggests creatures just spawn, the large the population, the higher the spawn rate... Same as people!
