I just signed on today (sept 18) and I'm CLUELESS... I am currently farming for carrots... but the turn takes 150 minutes? can someone explain to me how this works?

I read through some of the forums, and am interested in that FAQ that was being made... really good questions in there.. but unfortunatly no answers :)

Feel free to message me.
Thanks

The game opperates on a 8 game 'hours' per day cycle. Everything (projects, travel, etc.) updates every three hours (more or less). Note that you only havew 200 minutes of active time for the entire day. Many more addicted players have trouble with that...

So... you're not really expected to be logged in for long at a stretch. Since usually few people are on at the same time, that would be a waste of minutes. The game goes on the same without you logged in.

And remember that cantr is not a typical game. Untill you have a feel for Cantrian reallity, think about how people would act if it were real. That's somewhat close.

Um...need specific questions to say any more.

And, as for the FAQ, that's supposed to be uploaded on the Cantr website - which hasn't happened yet. Programming Department has to do that :(

Just post it on the forums for now, Ant. We haven't had a chance to rip it to shreads yet.

what erks me...

When I try to ask someone a question, even not "OOC".. they tell me to go ask on the boards, and that I can't expect to have "uber" stuff as a newspawn.

As far as I know.. if "Real" life, when you ask someone a question, they give you an answer AKA "how does this work?" "How do I do this?" and you will get a nice explanatory answer.

All I seem to get here is alot of "oh another new player" /ignore new player. (in Krip)
In real life, if I see something on the street (not even in a yard), I pick it up and take it if I'm interested (ever taken something from a garbage can?) but here, people start shouting "PUT THAT DOWN, YOUR STEALING!"... (now I've read enough to know that people dont like that.. but I've seen other people get yelled at).
Even after entering and exiting what would seem like a public building, I've been told that I shouldn't do that. (and I've never heard of a locked harbour before??)

This is a very confusing game for someone who just joined, and unless you like living in a make believe world, very hard to play.
Anyone got any tips?

Okay, sure, if you were on the street, no one would care if you took something. But of course, that something is usually garbage, is it not? In Cantr, "garbage" would not exist, because everything in the game is a 'useful resource' (Of course, some resources have no/few uses, and others have a billion - not the point.) - In real life, there are millions of resources, and trillions of products made with them, so there's pleanty of room for "junk". In Cantr, there are less than a thousand resources, and around a thousand things to make - Garbage? What's Garbage! Every last scrap needs to be used to be efficient.

If you were at a friends house, would you take stuff from their fridge without asking? That would be the same in Cantr, you're taking things from the city streets without asking. Plus, of course, many places have their own government set up - Their laws may say "Don't take things from the ground." - In real life, if there were such a law, taking things from the street would be breaking that law, and the police would come after you - would they not? It's the same thing. If there's a law against something, don't do it.

It's always hard for new players to get used to the atmosphere, though. But here's some general tips:

- Don't take things from the ground - There's not many places that don't care if you take things, everyone enjoys being wealthy, so it belongs to the government - usually - unless someone else worked for it and it was dropped. Also, don't enter buildings. You're just asking for trouble. Entering a building, the people outside can't see what you're doing, and you could be stealing. They'll assume that you were and probably kill you on the spot.

- Always check the "Objects" page for some note that has "LAWS" or "RULES" or "WELCOME TO ..." in the subject. - These notes usualy tell newspawns and visitors about their set laws, if any, so make sure you follow them, or you'll find yourself dead quite quickly in some places.

- It never hurts to ask - If you're new to the place, ASK what you can do. If you're new to the game in general, don't go posting OOC comments in the game, we ALL hate that because it drives us away from our role playing. If you have an OOC questions, unless it's a quicky (Or in private on the game, and the other player doesn't mind answering...) bring it to the forums, we'll answer it for you, if its an 'answerable' question (You can't ask how things are made, or where things are, etc, this is breaking the Capital Rule.)

- "And unless you like living in a make-believe world, it's very hard to play." - Guess what? Cantr -IS- a make-believe world, and you're not "yourself", remember: you're playing an alter ego, while logged in, you're "your character" and everything is from their point of view. To them, this make-believe world is REAL, so make sure you treat is as such.

yeah,
It takes a while to learn stuff.
My first characters got attacked or thrown in jail for taking a few things or going into buildings. One character started making hemp rope on a machine just to see what it would do.
There has been a lot of talk about a "newbie guide" or something to that effect.
One of the things about the stuff is that there really is no yard so to speak, and since there is no yard, the stuff on the street might belong to somebody.
When people leave projects half done and leave town, sometimes other people finish them. Those goods end up on the ground (rather than right into the workers inventory) until somebody picks them up. Or if somebody's inventory is full when they work on something, the proceeds from projects also go to the ground. So often times, goods on the ground have an owner or owners.
Anyway, when I started, I thought everybody that played were idiots, but it grew on me, and now it is cool to have characters in different roles.
It is true that it takes a while to earn cool stuff, but after about four months of playing, I have one character with a building and over a dozen employees working for him. I also have most of my characters with iron shields, and several with sabres and good amounts of clothing. A few of them have buildings, although none of them own any vehicles, yet.
Just keep going until you find a friendly character to help you out.

Also you could try asking in the area if anyone is hiring, it is often, but not always, easy to get a character hired by another, and then they can show you the ropes.
I think, therefore I think I am, I think
