I just joined today and I figured I should say hi. So, um, hi. :)

I found out about Cantr while looking for browser-based games at free-games.com.au, and I ought to say thanks to whoever "a98madison" for the great review that made me decide to give it a try. (LOL, and also to "Agar"; strangely enough even the negative review helped convince me, all the things they were complaining sounded like things I would actually like :) )

I've got a zillion questions about the game, but I know I'm supposed to figure stuff out on my own, so I'll try to restrain myself.

Well, okay, just one question. Is the game world basically "settled" by this point with everything claimed by different factions, or are there still wilderness areas left? ie: If I decided to travel around and explore a little, is every place I go already going to belong to someone else, with government, laws, etc. already set up? The guide on the site said one thing, but I know it's out of date, and a lot of what I've read on the forums so far suggests otherwise.

I think it is safe to say that there are *plenty* unsettled lands, you might have to look for them but there are plenty :D

and welcome to cantr

There are a lot of places unsettled, and it seems like new islands are being added all the time, also, yeah, sadly everyone has to find stuff out IC (in-character) but you can always use like your own knowledge like a oven is for cooking and such. A lot of people search for stuff on the interest to find out what they are and just play it off...just don't tell anyone  .

Let's see here... first off, Welcome! Welcome to our humble abode! I'm Anthony, your FRIENDLY staff member. (I'm trying to get more people on my side ;)).

First off, yes, I'm just going to think really hard, and throw out a percentage. Something like... hmm... 80%. Alright, 80% of areas are government'less. That's just my guess. That could be anything from a massacured city, to a deserted mountian-top, to a new land that no one has found yet (Or settled). There's pleanty of places to find (Trust me <.< there's no way you could see every location, even with all 15 characters...), so there's going to be somewhere you can set-up camp.

I think I know why you're asking your question too. Any other online game that has any form of land, by two years of the game running, everyone owns something and there's no 'fresh' land. I can tell you, in Cantr, that will -NEVER- happen. If areas get too crowded, expect more islands to crop up in unexplored regions of the sea. I can guarantee that -never- will all the land be settled.

Also, wars go on here and there, so it's possible land exchanges hands, or becomes people-less because everyone's dead. So existing islands will have pleanty of unsettled areas (Not just because they're all dead, but from it being a terrible environment or something.) - Hell, if you want a government to control so bad, go overthrow one - Get close to the King (Or President/Pasha/Elder/etc.), slip into his bed... and kill him! AHHH HAHAHA... I mean... *Cough* - Yeah, something like that. There's always something to do, you're not constricted by the code (Your role play, anyway... Except perhaps combat. You can't kill someone in one blow, so don't expect any quick assassinations...).

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, anyone or everyone will help - we're all friendly. Except some people say I'm not, I don't know how -that- seed got planted... Anyway, go have fun.

LOL, well I doubt I'll be starting any wars anytime soon, somehow I don't think pounding on people with my fists would get me very far. Though I admit I did entertain the thought of eventually founding a little village somewhere...but I bet you hear that from all new players. :)

I was just a little surprised because I seem to have ended up in a very large, very modern city, and I imagine the area around it is pretty similar; it's just not quite what I expected.

Any other online game that has any form of land, by two years of the game running, everyone owns something and there's no 'fresh' land.

Right. And games that allow players to build their own houses, etc. are usually worse (even though that's one of the features that always attracts me). They always seem to wind up as one huge, disorganized urban sprawl. So I'm glad to hear Cantr is avoiding this; and the players seem to have found ways to control it, too; I noticed in one of my starting town that making new buildings wasn't allowed without permission.

So anyway, as soon as I get done farming for potatoes I'm really looking forward to exploring the area around me. But I guess I ought to check out some of the businesses (there are a *lot* of them by the looks of things) and ask where I can find some resources to make clothes with first of all...

Dumb Newbie Question #2 : I noticed mining for stone seems to be a popular activity, and it occured to me that might be a finite number of certain resources. Could the stone (or other non-renewable resources) actually run out some day, or is it always going to be there? Just wondering if I should get some while it's there, or concentrate on farming instead, or what.

At this time, the only limited resources are the animals, and they reproduce fast if there are enough of them.

For huge, disorganized urban sprawl, well, your city probably has it already. Chances are half the buildings aren't actually used for anything...(OOC info) If your character walks long enough, they can probably reach some minimally peopled areas.

Note: why clothes? does your character have some interest in them?

Clothes because I don't want to walk around nekkid. :) Plus a lot of the people I was looking at had really cool outfits, besides age that's basically how I'm telling most of them apart right now.

Telling them apart? You do realise you can name people, you know? Clicking on their orange link, and then the :) face, you can give them any name you want there. Of course, if you already knew this, it's just futal telling you now.

As for resources (In the ground), they're unlimited, but this may change eventually.

I saw where you could name them, but I don't know anyone's name yet. I guess I should ask...I'm just a little shy, that's all. :)

Welcome, Lumera!

This is my first rp game ever and it took me a while to figure out how things worked. Then my chars just kind of wandered around for a long time, not knowing how to build relationships or find a purpose.

After only 6 months, however, I'm so proud of some of my little chars.

One stumbled upon an empty forest area with no people at all and almost no resources. She decided to make it her own and has slowly, painfully carved out a tiny community. Although there is little action there, in some ways this is my most satisfying char.

Another char started off as a silly girl but has managed to gain quite a bit of power and influence in a town which has been referred to as one of the most currently important in Cantr.

Some of them are still wandering.

I'm not a particularly good roleplayer so my chars all have pretty similar personalities. It's amazing to me, however, how different all their lives are at this point, based almost completely on their encounters with other chars.

Also, even though they aren't necessary, my chars always go for the clothes (which aren't that easy to get). I think that they can convey a lot about the chars status and interests just as weapons and protection do. A well-dressed char walking into a new community will be treated differently than someone wearing nothing particularly worth meantioning. I likes the jewelry, too!

it is very possable, I have a character that couldnt find food for about a week. he found this little town with only two resources one food and the other almost worthless. so he decided to stay and farm food for everyone passing through...well long story short. there is now five people living there and survive on making almost everything out of bones.

found out it was a town before and got massacred, we are still getting dead bodies out of one of the buildings. buried about 4 already got about 10 to go.

hope this helps give you hope..or make you mad if it never happens to you

edit: and we would like to hear about when you first become a cantr addict  it will happen, might not take that long but it will happen!!!!

Welcome, Lumera, to our place of madness. Try not to get too scared by some of us. Nor intimidated by some of the arguments.
