When last did you construct a vehicle?

Please help me with my sociological project of understanding consumption in Cantr.

(a) When last did one of your chars create a vehicle for sole private use?
(b) What sort of vehicle was it.
(c) How old is your char - decade?
(d) What was your chars' principal occupation the rest of the time.
(e) What is the nature of the economy in the place where he lives most of his life? Baking bread, harvesting carrots, etc, etc.

BTW, the ideal answer would be complete, but any old bits of info or anecdotal musings would help too. Any restauranteurs with caddies?

Thanks! :)

Does it count if you have worked for a bike shop in exchange for a vehicle? I will answer the questions when I get an answer to that...

I take it taking an unwanted bike (with a dead owner) for yourself is not relevant?

No, I think the idea is to look at the means of production. One of my characters is trying to get the materials to make one, but it's difficult in the region.

a- about a year ago
b- tandem bike
c- 55
d- company owner
e- multible things, my char produces steel and all related products for trade

Oh yes, that would certainly interest me. Indeed further snipplets of info about the shop's rate of production and, generally, the sort of people the shop sells to would help a lot!

Thanks for the replies. So can I take it then that bicycles are the upper limit for private individuals constructing vehicles on their own behalf?

But you gotta figure boats as vehicles also, I think there are many more boats then vehicles. For instance, 6 of my chars own or have free access to a boat, but only 3 of my chars have access to or own a bike. And I'm not talking about young chars, my oldest is 55 and youngest with a vehicle is 31. As far as land based vehicles go the most efficent for cost and benefits are the bikes, but I'm pretty sure that longboats dominate the personal vehicle list overall.

Yes...longboats and a few other ships make convenient personal transport, since they don't require any iron or steel. I have one of those.

They are very limited as to where you can go with them, though.

I just built a Limo, not by myself, but I just wanted to share that. Its been under construction for half my life.

I have built a two small vans and a sportscar with the help of my clan. They are not for my private use, but shared among trusted people. It would take too long for one person to collect all the resources, process them, and build the car.

To answer your main question though, I have built 2 dirt bikes withint the last 5 years all by my lonesome. I am in my 50's, my occupation is mentor and clan figurehead. All our food is provided and at my age, I have all the tools I need, so why not spend all my time making a vehicle or improving a road. The economy of our region is iron/steel production and woodchopping.

And what wonderful dirtbikes they are, too. I'm using one and couldn't be happier.

Saw a dirtbike scream past one of my chars once. I want one.
