LOL. you used to be stuck with whatever they named themselves. Now, you can name the guy that hits people: "Jerk who hit me" and the lady who took your potatoes: "Stealing meanie butt" and your best friend "Fabulous Friend Ed" lol
See? It's more fun this way!
Seriously, though. It's helpful.

You'll see

Hi people, I am also a newbie, this is my first day, etc. I seem to be getting the hang of things but my chars seem to be in rather desolate locations. Is there any way to find/see a communal map or something.
Also, when you travel does a map of sorts develop for yourself, or is there any way to draw where youve been or are going in-game?

Just thought of another question:
Why can I mine for soda? Does one find cans of drink buried in the sand? LOL.

The only other places you know about are the ones adjacent to where you are. You can see them in the locations page. There's also a little visual map of the area right around you. When you go somewhere else, that little square moves with you so you don't save any map info. Really the only thing you'll usually need to know about places is what's there and what places they connect to. If you want to remember that stuff you can write it in a note. People call these location lists maps even though they aren't visual. See if there are any maps on the ground already, in the objects page. Also ask others there for information. You're going to need food so if there's none where you are you probably want to ask where you can find some. Oh and welcome to cantr!

Thanks for the welcome. And as for the food, I happened to find about 700 grams of food on the floor, so I helped myself LOL. No-one seemed to mind.

BTW can I, like, buy or train a horse to ride and save some travelling time?

They probably do mind, they just didn't see it yet. Also, no one would mind those arrows in your sticking out of your back. Their arrows ofcourse.
Usually no one gets away with thievery.

Oh. For one, I didn't take all of it, only 250 out of about 798 or something. Since it was just lying on the ground I thought it was communal or something... why would someone just leave food lying on the ground!
And as to their arrows... I am running away as we speak!

That'll look even worse... I hope you explained out loud what you were doing. Good luck to you, my friend. You'll need it.

As a matter of fact I kinda explained what I was doing, and as to the dire ending of your message, I will need the luck, but also the experience. This is, after all, my first day.

Welcome to Cantr. Its usually a much better life should you just farm and mine stuff yourself or via trading. Ground stuff is usually stuff that was from old projects. Watch out for those town Guards, or else you might just run into one of my chars.
