Picking vehicle locks

What happens when a vehicle or boat leaves town while someone is trying to pick it's lock? Someone started picking the lock on my boat once, and it would be pretty odd if one day the lock just pops off while I'm on the other side of the continent because someone decided to try it.

Someone did that to my boat before... I believe they were uable to finish working on it, since I had another character in that town,

I remember there was something like this that happened before. Same with dragging someone into a vehicle, they just "appear".

I -believe- it's been resolved, so when the vehicle leaves, you can't pick the lock anymore or drag anymore. But I personally wouldn't know.

I have started a lock picking project on the bike of a criminal. He drove off down the path. I continued the lock picking project and a day later I saw the message that is had been successful. Hopefully one day he will step off his bike, thinking it is locked and someone will hop on and steal it.

that just makes me want to try to take every bike i see from now on, but I cant. maybe I could meditate and go to the "plane of cantr" and speak with my characters to tell them

Yes, and of course, NO ONE will abuse such a flaw, will they? *Eyes everyone* Yes. Well. It's already been reported, but I'll reitterate the point.

I don't see it as a flaw, but just another thing in cantr that isnt the same as in real life. In Cantr as long as you start a lock project before the vehicles leaves, you don't need to be there when the lock falls off.

I will agree that it is abusing a loop hole if you agree that people docking by boat, stealing everything and undocking in mere minutes is just as flawed.

Or if the power of administrative might is used to tell you that one of them is a bug, and the other is just the way the game works...
Assuming that that is the case...

I say this: (Not that it means anything.)

"The ability to dock and undock so stupidly, is stupid. I hate it, and I want it to be changed to eliminate those dumb-'uck raider shits. If I can't get to another location instantly, then I can't get my boat onto the water instantly. 'Nuff said. As for locks being broken after the vehicle left, that's just goobie. Very much so goobie. Needs to be fixed, cause, you don't run after the bloody thing, you stay where you are. That'd be the same as working on a project, walking into a building, and still working on it and receiving the results. Not 'spost to happen. Goobie."

I understand your point, but understand mine....

If you are going to prioritize these two issue to fix, think of it this way:

Usually town officials try to break bike/car/boat locks of criminals (not all, but most). Usually those that abuse the ease of undocking after killing or stealing are the criminals. Fixing the docking helps many people and may save a town. Fixing the lock project first only helps a fleeing criminal.

So in summary, to fix the lock picking of bikes while leaving the ease of undocking is a double blow against the good guys and anarchy. I will of course play by the rules that are set down to me, but I don't have to agree.

I have said this before, but I wont ever follow through... I may have to go on a boat killing spree until enough people complain in the forumn of the dumb boat murderer. I have the weapons, shields, healing foods, and carrots to terrorize every town on the dock without ever leaving my boat. One of my characters has been robbed over 8 times by 4 different thieves on about 3 different boats. That would make anyone think of turning to crime istead of being the victim forever.

....did I hijack this topic?

Yes, actually you did. But that is a grand tradition here.

If the world is so easy on criminals, why is it that there are hardly any effective ones?

It isn't the job of the administration to prop up (or worry about) the 'good guys'.

The crowbar thing can be abused for good or for evil. Criminals aren't the only ones who need locked vehicles. One hour of risky work can make any vehicle permanently insecure. (1 hr work on lock-breaking means it can never be cancilled, so someone can come later and stealthily finish it. The vehicle's owner would never know unless he noticed the sudden absence of lock.)

Enjoy your piracy. Just try not to do it OOC... *shrugs*

Because the dumb ones get caught eventually and you don't know of the smart ones.

And you missed my point. I am not out for game admin to help out the "good guys" and make a life of crime harder. I was commenting on how if both are seen as things to be fixed, the issue that can be used to disrupt the most people should be looked at first. The Lock Picking effects one bike. The boat attacker can massacre a whole town. The question isn't which is better for law abiding characters, the question is which is better for us as players, what can protect our characters that we love. Which is a dealy flaw and which is just unfortunate? Which can cause a town to be killed and which will cost someone a mere 200 iron?

Umm it's sort of like item detoriation. I think when the vehicle moves out, the project should be cancelled, but when someone else starts a new project on that lock, it should start from the point the previous project ended, since the lock is now weaker. Unless the owner of the lock fixes it in between these lock break attempts.
