Religions

Postby SekoETC » Thu Aug 19, 2004 3:45 pm

In some areas of Cantr it seems quite clear that the characters should have a pre-gained knowledge of the local religion. Ok some say there's no life before 20 and some say there's not, but at least there is some pre-gained knowledge like language and writing (for most people) so I think religion falls into the same category. Most of my characters are atheists which is quite strange since I'm not. Now there's this four spirit thing, all I know about is from a note I saw in ground a long time ago.. and though you can logically guess what those four represent, I wouldn't want to start talking rubbish in character.. I have a little trouble forming a question here... Ah, damn.....
Do your characters believe in anything, are there areas where a religion is so common people are supposed to know it from spawning and so on?

Religion in cantr is not so common that it would be known about til reading the notes after spawnling. I've heard of the Church of Jos (and seen the vehicle), and I know there's one out near Sjo/Blaman, but I don't have the name off the top of my head.

A few of my charries talks about their own gods. Like my imfamous Heironious. Anothe believes in spirits. and my newest nut case thinks he can see ghosts.( I am trying very hard to rp that one good.)
I am the Dragon Slayer. And as long as I have my friends behind me. I will never fall.

There's the Church of the Unamed Ones.
The K-island tribes were vaguely religious while they lasted.
There's a religious group in Karnon Forest that I can't remember the name of.
I know there are others I've encountered that I've forgotten.

(this is by the way my 1000th post. yay.)

I know of a few major religions;

Church of Jos around the Quillanoi/Siom/Tircqi area (Founded in Siom and has been spreading ever since)
Church of the Kept in the Blaman area (founded in Blaman by a woman named Lenorra but moved to Blaman Forest around the time that BEST took over Blaman)
The Unnamed Ones around the Olipifirovash/Moku and is creeping into the Blojt area (I believe it was founded somewhere in Olipifirovash by a man named Maxim but each area that it has spread too it sort of has developed a faction of its own such as the Silver Knights in Southern Moku)

The Church of X I believe was very similiar to the Church of Jos. The Church of X was wiped out when the Empire of Ladvicitavoi invaded and took over the Naron region back under the first emperor Alexi Romanov. That was a long, long time ago.

I tried to start a religion in the Swedish region, but my guy who spread it died...

I find that religions that doesn't promote a certain purpose, like taking care of the weak, create order out of the chaos etc. has a hard time establishing themselves...people are just to hooked up on gathering resources to spend time on other things.

Ah, yes, I had a character around when that was first created. Someone found a bug where you can talk to dead characters and I think it was someone who was named Mandrake talked to Klug after he had died and claimed it was Klug from the afterlife talking to him. Klug was one of the founders of the Kirrin Government way back when the island first came to be. Klug was mostly a traveler making maps so he was never in Kirrin though but everyone knew him because of his maps.

Most of my characters are basically atheists, because in alot of the regions, there isn't a popular religion.
One character follows the Unnamed Ones, but keeps it to himself.
